Not saying he’s wrong or even that most people will get the same or better performance out of the MAX than they would get out of the LST, but-

For me the MAX was a little too high, and a little too spinny compared to the LST. It wasn’t a ton, but enough. I went in to my fitting dead set on the MAX or one of the Callaways, and just couldn’t make the case for anything but the LST

Good to know.  I'm starting with MAX and will go from there.  I know the Ventus Red fits me so it's a question of fine tuning the head.  And you are right about the videos.  I like to watch them but honestly most of the testers swing a heck of a lot better than me so I take them with a grain of salt.

Need some advice -

Looking at testing out 425, but I hear so much about how heavy the head is and the swing weight is so affected.

Coming from a D4 196gr Callaway head, venous black 6x 45.5 playing length- Am I going to be focused on counterbalanced shafts only when testing?

Is my timing going to be all goofy if I don’t use a counterbalanced shaft?

Do the heavy Ping heads just take a while to get used to with a normal shaft?

Thanks for any info

With my 410 Plus, I didn't like how the head felt heavy when I changed from my Tensei Orange, which is counterweighted. On Ebay I got a weight set for it and changed out the 16g to a 10g. Worked well for me but felt a bit less stable. Tried the 425 Max today with the Tensei Orange Raw. Felt great! But if I decide to put another shaft in, I may get another weight set for it to lighten it up. This head has stability for days.

I am closer to 90 and I have the Ventus Blue  6 jn R.  It came in my Pars & Stripes Extreme.  But i have also put it in my Radspeed XB for a few swings.

it launches slightly lower than my other shafts but with good accuracy.  Distance is about the same for me no matter what driver i hit. 😩

Thanks for the review.

I hit the 425 Max 9.0 45.25" D3 w/ Tensei Orange 65 stiff tipped 1/2" today. Looks like a superstar after my session. The misses were better than misses from other heads and the ball speeds and lower spin for the Max is very impressive.  I was killing it and the spin was a surprise. Spun lower than I expected and I loved the feel and sound. I didn't hear anything that would be noticed on the course. Cannon and cant wait to test it against the TSi3.

The stability makes for confidence and the smash/ball speeds are awesome.

Smash was only 1.36, get that up to 1.45 and that will give you an extra 20 yards.  I am loving the side spin and back spin numbers.  I'd go with the Max if I were you, you'll enjoy the forgiveness on days when your swing isn't on.

I went at it again today. One of my big observations with the 425 max is I feel it is so forgiving I can rip even harder at it with the confidence it will not fly into the next fairway. There is a feel of face flex and a sound of thin walls that suggests it will catapult faster.

The head looks good and forgiving so much I just wanted to turn more and let it fly. Spin seems consistent as well. I would hit a high toe shot and figure it would ballon up in the air but it wouldn't. The tensei orange at 45.25 is a great marriage as well.

What do you think of the sound?

He likes it. It isn’t for everyone however, and a 5g of Ping Hot melt (which is free when you order) turns this into a vastly improved sound.

Ping also adds the hot melt first, then adjusts the back weight to get to your desired weight, so no worries on a heavier head.

I'm 95 -100 these days and play the Ventus Blue 6 in stiff in my 410 and fully intend to play it in the 425.

One of the two or three best shafts (for me) in my forty some years of this stuff.  Blueboard and Graffaloy Blue come quickly to mind as past favorites.

I haven't swung Ventus in a regular flex but the stiff doesn't feel overly stiff at all to me.  I can really feel the head throughout the swing and it is very easy to load in my opinion.

About the farthest thing from boardy to me.

Quote me... Holy Grail. As for the soundI like it. Not muted like last years SIM or this years TSi3 but it has it's own sound and feel. I said in another post that is feels like the face is flexing and the walls are thin. To me that translated to a feeling of speed and forgiveness. The sound is not tin can either. I didn't think it sounded abnormal or will get any attention on the tee.

I privy to robot data testing in a very controlled manner. While I cant divulge the data I will say that all the Ping drivers this year are lower spinning higher MOI. The 425 Max is a lower spinning head when compared to the field of all drivers. We will see that as more and more of us test on launch monitors. Within in a few months as many get fitted there will be a lot of discussion about the 425 ball speeds, lower spin with average launch on center and off center hits.

Lastly the lower spin we are seeing from the 425 max (LST as well) is not from a lower launching condition. That is one of the larger variables I have seen looking at data. Just because the driver says 9.0* some are not and some will launch lower and thus reduce spin. Spin divided by launch is a better factor to determine how low spinning a head is.

With the Ping 425 Max giving us good launch, the spin and ball speed numbers are very impressive for center and off center hits are as well. Holy grail stuff here.

 :pimp:

I’m a Ping fan, but I hated the 425 Max sound and feel. Sounded like a cheap little league bat where you got it off the end.

The story on golf.com about the backup, the fallen containers, and the need for bolstering the production line with everyone in the company is disheartening for delivery...I can say that for sure. 2-3 month backlog already due to the popularity of the release, already.   And it's not officially out yet for two more days.
