240 BB with really good loft. I was absolutely barreling the ball today, it was impressive. At times I was 15 yards ahead, 4 of my 12 were RIDICULOUS

I'm trying to be super accurate.

2 dribble tops, like 90 yards

2 big slices but I was lucky on both of them they had fairways next to them so I didn't have to take a drop

4 maybe 5-6 drives were absolutely crushed. at least 260 total with one every bit of 275. Several others 230.... My driving game has improved A LOT. I've been practicing my swing and going to the range 1 every two weeks and hitting 70 balls exclusively with it.

Yeah but it's different..... I have a legit drive I would say I could play single with my drive. Irons hook that part is bothering me. Short game is OK, nothing special at all but the bunker play killed me. Putting is good, I'm naturally a good putter I always have been able to read greens and roll the ball well.

You never even seen me play. I'm telling you the driver was really on today. I had some impressive drives..... That one that was 275 was big time. I even baited one of the players I said how far do you think that went? 250. He goes no way 270 easy and then we did the math and came up with 275.

A hack is someone who can't see their own faults, thinks they are better than they really are, and thinks the only thing holding them back is some intangible ether that they have yet to locate.

I know my faults. I hook irons a lot. I find if I choke down on them they go straighter, does that make sense to you? Any reason for that? (see I am asking you because I dont know).

What's the trick to bunker play. I tell myself hit 1/4 inch behind the ball and I flush it or it goes way to far. Or I leave it in the bunker

I never cared for the term. It's demeaning. Everyone has to start somewhere, plus this is a difficult game that takes skill to even develop some competency. The average score is around 97, and for those that keep a HI the average is 14. So the "good" golfer is not a common creature. To refer to everyone else as a hacker is like calling the majority of Americans deplorable.

Great post, thanks for that. I practice a lot and really try to hone my game but I am just not a great golfer...... I can driver it pretty well and can putt really good at times. Irons are coming around, not great never will be but are better.

I really think choking down a little helps me control the club face and prevent major club head rotation.

This means a lot to me sorry I missed it. I am highly encouraging I noticed a lot of good golfers like to play with me because I appreciate them and I let them know it. I praise their game, even after the game I have a great memory so I'll let player x know man those 4 approaches you hit were really nice, ball sounded great and the ball flight was ridiculous. Even the most conservative usually smile. I bring that to the game, which is one of my biggest strengths.

A 30 out there shooting 105, having beer and a good time....not a hacker.

A 12, with his name on his staff bag, trying to shoot The cover yardage on the front bunker, who plays blades so he can work the ball, is stuck between a 1 plane and 2 plane swing with an RIT release and hits his 7 iron 172 yards as his stock yardage.....with a baby draw.

Interesting assortment of answers. TBH most if not all have at least some merit. I would consider myself a hack on two conditions, sadly. I practice and shoot a 100. Like I said I enjoy the game and certain aspects are more fruitful like putting (which has always been extremely natural) and the driver which was sort of natural and practiced.

Irons are brutal but have become operational. Clearly not optimized but functional enough to get a semi crisp strike along with some directional understanding. Like I said before if I choke up says about inch down on the grip I gain a lot more control of the club face. Anthony Kim anyone?

Short game is practiced around the green but golf is literal. Very very literal and specific. If you practice chipping out of the rough, you'll only be good out of that type of rough. If you only practice around the tight lies same..... Bunker the same.....

Golf IMO is like a boat with a ton of holes. You can select certain holes to plug but eventually the water is going to get in. -Paddy_2_Iron

How many rounds does one have to shoot to get out of the hack status? Say you shoot a 100 and then shoot 20 round under a 100 are you no longer a hack? Just curious about your time lines, seems very binary and black and white....

Slices are not their much, fades with the driver on occasion I get muscular and hold off the face and it goes right really right but usually just a little fade

Tops, maybe 2 - 3 per 18

worm burners, less that tops maybe 1

bladed chips check tons especially out of the bunker

struggle to get out of the green side bunker. Hiliarous I flew one into the woods, another went over the green prior to me leaving it in the bunker. I had another shitty shot..... hole 18 last one. I flushed a driver 250. Hammered a 5 iron 180 into the bunker. Opened the face and just took a nice easy swing and put it 2 feet from the hole with serious spin..... Ugh.....
