How *DO you quantify a hacker?

Well, there we have it... a slew of definitions for Hacker. Like a slew of definitions for good golfer. What is the label for those in between? It's fun to watch people make titles up as the day wears them out. Next can I get a trophy for showing up, double tapping and ignore all the foot wedges?

Yeah, I alluded to this before but most of what is being referred to here as a hacker is really a duffer... which 99%* of us are.

In my golf dictionary Duffer and Hacker are synonyms, one in the same. And "yes", 99% of the golfers are both.

However....

Duffer = an incompetent or stupid person, especially an elderly one.

Hacker = a person or thing that hacks or cuts roughly.

Gotta wonder about the bias of the person that wrote those definitions.

I ended up selling all my equipment and starting over.  

 

I sold all the masterfit junk and ended up going to tour champion and picked up a set of iPing210 with some fancy shafts and heavier swing weights.  It made a HUGE difference.  Hawkeyes, F7's, Sim Max 2 and Ping 410 all hooked.  I purchased the 210's with the hot shafts and now I hit a sweet fade.  Clubs make a HUGE difference.  I come from the inside and the fitter told me that those game improve irons are terrible for guys with good swings.  

 

I stick to the par 3 course near by its cheap and I can shoot close to even par.   Its easy and it's fun.  I get to hit my ping i210's a lot which are fantastic.  I ended up going with a high spin TaylorMade ball and wow the height on my shots are way up there and hold greens.

So the other day I was on the range with my wife.  I am progressing through my bag and everything is going pretty well.  Then I pull out my utility iron and start hitting.  After about 5 shots my wife makes the comment (and not quietly) that I shouldn't hit that club because it goes too far left.  The guys on both sides of me look at me, not sure if it was empathy or not...  My sheepish comment to my wife, "this club is hard to hit".  I'm pretty sure I turned red, and I definitely felt like a hacker.  

 

A few weeks ago I hit a bad tee shot, nice and thin, but I was coaxing the ball to keep going, lol, as I am sure we all do when that unfortunate shot happens.  One of my playing partners said "amateur" in that off hand dismissive tone.  Yep, that has stuck.  

 

Anyway, this thread is hilarious.  I'm really not sure if it is a troll or not...

I can appreciate commiserating but lengthy recollection of bad events that may or may not reflect a hacker is, IMO, not healthy or good for anyone's Psyche or game.

 

We all hit bad shots.  Some people hit worse shots than others.  When I hit a stinky shot, I momentarily look at what I did wrong, then set it aside.  I do not want to reinforce bad shot memories, because they may show up in my thoughts when over the ball causing me to repeat stink.

I'm just trying to get my game back and adhere to the rules.  I sat in jail for over a year I did my time now I am hoping to integrate into society better this time.

 

I want to apologize to all the members for my foolish behavior, it was uncalled for.  What caused the breakdown, I was playing the Valley course at TPC sawgrass and ended up shooting a 107 with 4 pars.  I had those hawkeye heads with the masterfit shafts.  I hit almost every fairway that day but couldn't do crap off the fairway.  My buddy called me on the way home and said he didn't think the guys wanted me to play with them anymore due to how bad I was off the fairway. 

 

Later that evening I hit balls until my back hurt and my left hand when numb.  I ended up getting so drunk I missed the net and broke a 1000 dollar 14 foot window in my garage and put over 45 ball marks in the drywall.  I'll take a picture for validation later.  

 

Since then I did take the advice of the elders and dropped 3000 K into lessons, I think it helped me understand the swing better but I became to robotic so i dump the instructor and figured it out.  I still hook a little but my game is coming together.  

 

I play a local par 3 course now 9 holes, 2 balls and usually shoot 9 pars so half the holes.  I just recently bought a new putter, Wilson 79.99 demo infinte and it helped a lot.  I am lag putting way better now.  

 

Lots more happened but my game is coming together a lot better now.  I am still a 20+ but I am getting better.  

 

My set is ping 400 driver, 5 wood from adams 5 dollars from the bargain bin, 6 - U Ping i210 irons with 850 Nippon Shafts, 60 degree mizuno lob wedge bent to 57 and the wilson putter.  I play a TM TP5X ball for higher ball flights and spin.
