It's been mentioned a few times, but it's not uncommon for OEMs to remove trademarks from competitors' usage, of course they may use i230, but it may just be for PINGs protection. Glide 4.0 is trademarked and I'd imagine 5.0 will be eventually.

this. I costs about $450 to file for a trademark, it’s simply easier to spam the registry with “Intent to use” applications than to name your club and have to pay a trademark troll like myself $1/2 million to use a mark they paid $450 to obtain.

Are we going to get another iron line or just the i59?! Based on Hovland playing them in just the short irons they seem to be more of an iblade/blueprint replacement….wondering if the i210 are getting replaced?! I liked the i210 but there was just too much offset for my liking and the short irons and PW looked like shovels!

Not so sure about the I235.  I have “heard” it’s an I535 to replace the I500, likely in early 2022.

I wondered this but then would it not have made sense for the i59 to be played in the long irons and not the short?! Hovland used to play the i210 so it seemed a strange move to a split set of iBlade long irons and i59 short, obviously these guys test extensively so it must’ve been numbers based but it seems strange. I’m very much anti-hollow body having tested and played a few models, feel is terrible and you seem to lose that control of distance, prone to getting fliers etc.

Some thoughts… Hovland played a heavily ground set of i210s. Several degrees of bounce were removed. They also looked as slick as oil on ice, but those were never available by Ping WRX. To this day, if you said what would you want… i59's or Hovland i210s, I'd take those 210s and wouldn't blink. They just look fantastic, whether they meant to or not. The flat sole and stamped numbers are just bellissimo!

Many of us have seen the images of the 59s, and can readily show that the blade length is progressive. Just note the logo that says "forged" on it, and you'll see that while it stays constant, the blade length shortens to the wedge. Thus it's a pretty good bet that these will be the "successors" to the i210. iBlades were not progressive, so for Hovland specifically, he might want a higher spin head on the long irons (iBlade) and the i59 will probably be lower spin than he would want.

Finally, if there's one thing I'd bet the ranch on, it will not be called the i235. If by chance they use a larger number, it'll be i230 because that's trademarked. It very likely won't be used, and really would be unlikely that a 230 marketing tag would be available in 2021 given no leaks at all. We've seen the 59 and GFPro, and that's probably it for 2021. It might not even make it to general availability until the Holiday shopping season. But you know they want to hit that window badly.

I agree with this and reason why bought S55 over other brands. If replacement for Iblade is forged and high priced, I’ll be moving away from Ping and I was looking to go full bag. Ugh

I appreciate the insight but I was under the impression that iblade spins lower than i210 (stock not refined like Hovlands). That being said, looking at the initial photos, I suspect he prefers the look of iblade in the longer irons, where i59 starts to get bigger and higher toe seems more pronounced than other ping irons. Maybe I’m wrong but just my guess looking at them.

do you have a sense on forgiveness of iblade compared to i59?

No, but I would tell you the marketing story is going to be one where they're going to say it's more forgiving where you need it in the longs, and more front-to-back accurate on the shorts. That's been the line on progressives for some time, so I don't expect that to change.

What really matters is how the 6-iron and up turn out. 7-iron and down isn't going to matter for this side of the market. Not that an iron is an iron; there are differences, but they get a lot less. The game is won or lost on mid-iron approach control, and that's what remains to be seen on a mass market level. Wait and see...

Great insight thanks. I really liked the i210’s myself just wish they were slightly more compact with less offset, so Hovlands custom ones would be perfect! I remember reading about him having bounce taken off and the lofts strengthened for playing the memorial. I’ve been stuck borrowing irons all year because of the pandemic so really hoping we get these i59’s soon to test!

That was my initial impression also when I got the i210s, I came off a set of 2013 Ansers.  Over 2 1/2 years I've gotten used to the size and look of the 210s, and regardless of look, the ball flight is exactly where I want it.  I even added the U later on, which does look like a shovel, but I seem to hit better than any 50* gap wedge.  And I'm not very far from scratch.  I guess I'm wondering the same thing as everyone else, is this the iBlade/S55 child or is it also an i210 replacement.  Looks like the former.  I have a couple years of life left on the 210s so I'm in no hurry, good luck with your search.

Very much in the same boat in trying to work out whether this is the iblade replacement or i210 replacement…or is it almost the best of both worlds??? To be honest somewhere in the middle of those two would be perfect for me! I’m borrowing a set of ZX7’s from a friend, his backup set luckily, and if these i59’s don’t hurry up I may find myself acquiring my own set of these, they feel lovely.

The i59 is an iBlade replacement. i230 will be the i210 replacements. We will probably see i230 in 2022.

Well, this may be the way they go. Not saying it won't happen that way. However, if they do come out with i59, i230, and G430 in late 21/22, the catch is that they'll have only the Blueprint that isn't progressive.

Why would you make the i59 a progressive length, and still make an i230 that presumably fits somewhere "between" a G4xx iron and a progressive forgiving set? The only marketable difference would be that it's fully cast, and I'm not seeing how that's a differentiator.

But if it's a straight "replacement" of iBlade, are you expecting something else with a compact mid-iron? Or is Blueprint the only compact mid-iron going forward? Are we fully in the era of fat 4-irons?
