I’m not sure why you were using shims unless these are older Pings.  A collared ferrule is nice but I haven’t seen many recent non .355 Ping irons

I’ve reshafted 4 sets of Ping irons with “custom ferrules without a collar” in the past month , all were either current or iBlades were a few years old since the release , all were .355 , but there was play in between the shaft and hosel that beads would not seat correctly. He used specialty ferrules as well. I had to use shims on all. Same with the i59’s , as I’m seeing tonight. I just cut every other prong off on the shim , only leaving 4 and it seats perfectly with no play with beads in the epoxy. Your lies will be off and your bond isn’t good if you don’t use some type of shim with custom ferrules when there’s play.

Case in point... example of the i59 below has no shim and hasn’t been built yet , but you can see the gap and unlevel seating without a shim.

Yup!

The I59's are supposed to be pretty forgiving. Did you find them unforgiving?

They might be .370 hosel bore which can take .355 taper tip with shim or tip cap or .370 shaft. Just call Ping and ask.

Not sure why I would need to call Ping to ask? They’re not quite .370 but have a slight separation to where the bond wouldn’t seat correctly without a collard ferrule or shim. Thanks

No not 370 - all ping are 335

hosel bore where the collared ferrule goes is larger - sometimes close to 390 in more recent pings[g700]......just use the correct collar or shims/bb&f

I’m fully aware. If you guys see my post , it was referring to another member that made the statement that you don’t have to use a shim?

Again , if you see my original post it was focused to a member that said you don’t have to use shims with Ping. Thanks for the advice , but no need for me to call Ping. I’ve been building / refinishing clubs 15+ years , I can manage. Please back to i59 discussion.

Tried one fitting head briefly but I am a ping fan so would get them anyway. Plus I don’t trust fitting heads for final feel.

Did you notice a difference in feel between the fitting head and the “real” head? I ask because I was disappointed when I hit the fitting head with the LS shaft, it was slightly better with one of the Ping shafts (AWT?), but still not as expected. I almost hope that there was no difference….

My order got delayed from the previously quoted 10/14 delivery date to a nebulous last week of October/first week of November time frame. Apparently Ping was having trouble getting supply of the Project X LS shafts according to my retailer. It's supposedly in production now so the my retailer is fairly confident it won't get delayed again.

Quite the delay from the original 9/30 date haha

Not a chance , too many Dad duties 😉 Kiddos come first so had to put aside for a few days. All spine aligned , swingweight and dry fit with grips. Should have time Friday to glue um up. They are 🔥 though. I’ll post as soon as they’re completed.

No shim is needed if you have the correct collared ferrule. I have built a few sets now and have zero issues and no shims needed.

Yep! BUT , as I clearly said they’re custom ferrules that don’t have a collar and then you will need to use a shim.

I think the best solution is to buy collared ferrules(PING iron specific), cut the collar off and insert into head, then shaft up. I think shims would not allow for full insertion due to PING having the ridge at the bottom for the mechanical fit.
