Shanking GAPR Mid - shaft length?

I recently picked up a GAPR Mid 4 (21*) for a very good price.

I'm normally a reasonably good driving iron player and have had good results with Ping Crossovers (except for the sound) and my current PXG 0311x (flight a little low).

Whilst I have hit a couple of great shots with the GAPR Mid, all too often I am either shanking it straight right, or hitting off the toe straight right.

Anyone else have similar results?

I'm wondering if the extra length of GAPRs is the issue. It is 1" longer than my PXG of equivalent loft, and about the same as my Ping 19* hybrid.

I'm trying to decide whether to cut it down, or just sell the damn thing.

The one time I was brave enough to use it today it went straight right and cost me a double bogey which cost me my lowest ever score.

Length is unlikely the root cause, but it can amplify problems caused by other aspects of the club that are a poor fit. But not enough detailed info about how that club is different from the ones that don't give you the same problem so no way to really tell what true root cause might be. Lots of possibilities: shaft weight, swing weight, face angle, lie angle, shaft stiffness, or even just how it looks at address to your eye.

Sometimes the club experiment train, crashes !

You had some good results with other driving irons,

maybe they were not good enough results. You have choices,

I would use what worked previously, toss the Gapr

to the Crapper, these kind of club tests, get pricey.

GAPR was the worst club out of TM I have seen!! Couldn't give them away!! Not a lot of ppl. could hit them. OP, sell that thing and move on! Try the 410 Crossover or the new Titleist offerings.

Well, I'm mystified. I tried it on the course one more time since my last post and the ball flew straight right, but almost felt like it was off the toe rather than the hosel.

Then, when it was raining the other day, I took it and my old driving iron (PXG 0311x) and the hybrid I hate (Ping G400) to the indoor launch monitor down the road.

You know what comes next.

In spite of not making any allowance for length by gripping down, I didn't hit a single shot (out of dozens) off the hosel or toe. A few thin or hooky, but that's just me. Off the deck it was noticeably more consistent than either the PXG or Ping, and off the tee it was vastly more consistent. Slight draw, between 190-200.

So I'm giving it another go on course.
