Can Someone Recommend A Hot Melt Setup

I’m looking to invest some money into a hot melt set up. Typically I have been using lead tape on my woods and hybrids to get the swing weight where I want it. I am kind of over the whole piece of lead tape look and would like to start hot melting my clubs. Any recommended setup for my home shop. I only do this for my own clubs so not a high volume of work but I would like something that is easy to use and works well.

Surebonder Pro 100 Hot Melt KitI’ve used this. For the money, it works great. Just need to give it 15 minutes or so to warm up before you can use it. Use the search feature. You’ll find a lot of threads on this rig and many others.

Triple Ditto, The gun is a little wonky & you gotta let it get HOT & have a headgun on standby for heating the head prior to applications but it's a breeeze & saves you A LOT of money in the long run.

I find each trigger pull dispenses about 1.5 grams or Melt.

Pardon my ignorance, never applied melt myself, is the headgun and heating the head to assist in getting the melt to settle in the desired location? You use heat gun or very subtle torch application for this?

You need heat to make the melt a liquid. When it dries, it is similar to the "rubbery" adhesive that you find in magazines that typically hold promos together.

I am well aware what hot melt (glue) is, I was asking for clarity on the heating the head as well as the media itself. Hence my question being directed at the headgun and heating the head. Do you heat the head when applying the hot melt to maintain the temp required to keep it in a somewhat "liquid" state to position it? I assumed it was point and shoot. Sorry my original question was not clear.

So heating the head allows you to slightly alter the location after you first shoot the melt in the head.

Also a heat gun will help you get the brass tip hot which another poster mentioned, it is ultra critical to do once you do a couple heads you will understand exactly why :)

Heating the head won't do anything. It does help to keep the nozzle good and hot but you just point and shoot. I usually just like to keep it away from the face but there isn't a real reason to be ultra precise with placement because the effect a gram here and there has on bias is very minimal. I've got a little butane lighter that I heat the nozzle up with each time and it makes life a lot easier.

If your goal is to flow the hot melt over a larger surface of the head, it does. I do it virtually 100% of the time for sound deadening.

I just went through this. The place has pretty pricey shipping and I figured I would need more than one cartridge at some point.

I bought one of those Surebonder Pro 100 guns and it's an absolute POS. Very flimsy and cheap. The heating device is a waste of money too. Just fire up your torch and heat the cartridge that way. Takes 30 seconds instead of 15 mins to soften the hotmelt. If I had to do it again I'd buy the cartridges separate and rig up some screw applicator tool to push in the plunger.

Agree 100%, I had one that lasted just over a year before the gun broke and they carry no parts so it's trash! This is what I'm replacing it with. Can't be any worse.

Just to follow up, I ended up buying the surebonder 100. When my SiM Max head gets delivered I’m going to give it a try.

On full metal heads...the crown. On the newer composite heads, I stay away from the composite as much as possible.

I'd caution (from experience) any kind of dispenser that doesn't fully enclose the cartridge. Wasn't that many years ago I posted a few pictures of the aftermath of a bozo move I did that ended up with me pulling melt off of burnt skin after being a complete idiot at 1 AM.
