Lightweight Stand Bags

Recommended Posts

Very good point, the 2.5+ doesn't balance as easily, or to put it another way it doesn't have as big of a balance 'sweetspot'. On the other end of the spectrum, the Hoofer Lite basically can't be unbalanced. Probably has to do with where the straps connect to the bags.

I have decided to replace my 2018 2.5+ rather than have sun mountain repair it. To SM's credit, they would have paid for shipping both ways and repaired the bag 'if possible'. My stand was broken and there was a tear in ball holder pocket. With limited staff and backlog they said 5+ weeks. So i am taking a discount on a new one. Excellent customer service right there.

I have read through the thread and am leaning towards a 4plus or eco-lite. I'd like to try a different strap system than the 2.5+ with a little more storage. There is not a lot of info out there on either. Anyone with a few rounds in either or opinions on either?

Thanks!

Eco-Lite would be the way to go if you're okay with the color schemes. I believe it's close to a half pound lighter than the 4PLus with a similar layout.

Personally I'd recommend the 3.5+, the X-Straps are padded thicker on that model and it is actually 3.5 lbs.

Thanks for the response! Do you mean the 3.5ls, or is there a 3.5+ model I am not seeing? Do you think the X-straps are improved from the 2018 2.5+? I know the slipping issue was fixed at least. Also - thanks for all your work on this thread. As someone else who realllllly dives into products and research before buying, i appreciated your attention to detail and work reviewing these bags!!

Finally got around to actually walking with my Ping Craz-E Lite today and wanted to share my initial thoughts. Today's loop was 27 holes at a fairly flat local muni measuring about 6,200 yards for 18. And for reference I carry 14 clubs, 5-6 balls, rain zip(which I stuff in the rainhood pocket for extra cushioning), bluetooth speaker and small zip pouch with a few odd and ends. My previous lightweight stand bag was the first generation SM 2.5 which I had issues with the stand coming out slow and for some reason it just dug into my lower back.

Overall it was a really good carry and there was no fatigue after the day. The stand mechanism is on level with other Ping bags and the straps after a little adjusting balanced well. I was a little worried because these straps have a little less padding than my Hoofer but they are wide enough to be comfortable. Pocket layout is pretty good. I like the zip water bottle pocket which fit my 30oz Yeti Rambler and I really like they put the glove velcro within easy reach close to the water pocket. The pockets allow you to carry the necessities and not too much more. The bag looks better in person than photos online for sure. Now I will say there is some minor club tangle especially with my Superstroke putter grip. But lets be honest most bags in this category are going to have some tangle.

It's a great bag and I highly recommend it but there are a few things that I would change or like to see in the next version if possible. Most are just me being picky. Insulated water bottle pocket. Five way top with full length dividers would be nice. Better range finder pocket. It has a small zippered one on the spine but maybe a mesh pocket on the side would be great to easily grab it while walking down the fairway. Valuables pocket is unlined.

I looked at the Mizuno, Titleist and Sun Mountain but felt I would be happiest with the Ping. Mainly due to previous experience with Ping bags.

If anyone has any questions please let me know and I will try to answer.

Has anyone tried the 2.5+ on a clicgear cart? Id like to be able to use it when its hot, but looking for a light as possible bag to carry. Not sure if the stand mechanism on the bottom will get in the way?

Also there is something about a velcro glove patch that just makes me want to buy a bag!

When not on the course and your bag is just sitting at home, do you guys stand it up against something so as not to put so much constant pressure on the legs, or nah?

Usually just have it on the legs, but I do have a golf organizer rack that I'll stand it vertically in if I really need to straighten up the basement. Legs are way more durable than the amount of time it will take me to change bags for the sake of changing.

  • 2 weeks later...

First off...bravo to this thread. The amount of information found here is more than any review site and more than any MFG sites! I am at a bit of a bag dilemma and figured I would ask this thread for advice...

I often ride (more than I walk) and use a push cart when walking. However, it is not uncommon for me to play and then walk the par 3. This may sound weird, but even though I rarely carry I feel like I am carrying my bag around a good amount (range every day, walking the par 3, etc.) I currently am gaming a Titleist Players 4 Plus. I absolutely love the functionality of the bag because I get great balance and no club tangle. My golf "style" is quite minimal so I HATE the big Titleist script on the side of my bag. Over the past 6 months, before finding this thread, I looked at a TON of bags and haven't been able to find anything really. Below is a list of what I have tried over the past few months - is there anything else I am missing? Would love to just find a players 4 plus with no logo but can't find it...any suggestions are welcome!

Vessel Lite - Too small at top and way too much tangle

Nike Lite - Love Nike, but club tangle sucked

Jones Utility Trouper - Same issue as the Nike Bag.

Sun Mountain and PING make several great bags that are logo free.  PING being a little bit harder to find in non-logo.

I haven't seen a 2020 SM 2.5+ sans logo yet but 2019 are available without one.

Shapland golf bags are pricey but are very well made.

I would also look at the other Vessel bags.  I get that the Lite may be too small but the Players 2.0 sounds perfect for you.  Comes in both a 6 way and a 4 way top.
