Lightweight Stand Bags

Recommended Posts

Mostly for my own information but also because I've enjoyed following the commentary on this thread, I decided to attempt to weigh the bags that I've either recently used or may put into use this year.

Now, perhaps I made an error or should not have used the method I did, but I used a smaller digital scale (same type that I use when measuring club head/grip/shaft weight, etc. - it's about 8 inches in diameter) I was able to pretty much get each bag to balance itself on the scale so I think the read-outs should be valid. I measured with strap(s) attached. Here is what I found and thoughts:

Ping Mascot - which I have understood to be a modified version of the prior 4 Series bags - 5 lbs 8.2 oz - this one threw me a bit as I was expecting something in the high 4's or right around 5. I don't think I've ever found where the weight of this bag was advertised anywhere by Ping or other retailers. I have carried this bag in the past a handful of times for 18 holes but usually use it on my Clicgear.

SM 2.5 - I think this is an original, or at least, prior to 2018 version - 2 lbs 11.8 oz - about what I expected. It's a bag that carries exceptionally light.

Hogan BH1 Stand Bag - 6 lbs 6.6 oz - also about what I expected. I bought this bag when they were going through their reorganization sale a couple years ago with the thought that I might use it with my Clicgear at times.

Stitch SL1 - measured with the rain hood - 4 lbs 11.7 oz - WAIT WHAT? - website clearly states 57 oz. I even took the strap off and measured and I think that brought it down to like 4 lbs 3 oz. This is a bag that I actually haven't taken out yet, it's been sitting in the basement for over a year. I have loaded it up with like 10-12 clubs before and while it does feel light in terms of carry I was disappointed to see that number come up.

Ideally for the next few years I'd love to have something sub 4 lbs or very close to it with minimal logo presence on the bag itself. I'd like to start carrying again more than using my Clicgear. I was thinking Stitch SL2 could possible fit the bill as I like dual strap and having a stand mechanism. But what is that going to weigh in at????

Appreciate the positive review on the Titleist Carbon, I do like the looks of that bag. When I carry I'll normally cut down to somewhere between 10-12 clubs and few other items in the bag (balls, rangefinder, water bottle)

Keeps the reviews and commentary coming, this has been a very nice thread.

Back to the K1-LO as my gamer. The ping cel was good, but the tangle drove me nuts. Do have an SL2 on the way though. Lol

I have the Callaway HyperLite 1+ which is similar and also has the short little legs. It’s great for 10-11 clubs max. Gets a little tight beyond that. The legs are nice to keep the bag from getting wet/dirty, and it’s obviously better than laying it all the way on the ground, but I’ve come to appreciate a full stand for keeping the bag upright, easier to reach and get clubs in and out.

I now have a SM 2.5+ and I think it’s the best of both worlds. Only a fraction of a pound heavier but has a full stand.

Well I’m torn between quiver Jones original and just sticking with my TM flex tech Lite (which isn’t even that light).

Going to always carry 14 clubs.

I currently have a cobra ultralight, love the bag but the legs are completely screwed up already. They didn't last a year and i got this bag because the other cobra bag I had fell apart. Please help, looking for reliable legs and sturdy bag. I would love full length divides. I don't carry often, usually use a push cart. Any info would be great. Thanks guys and hoping to play here in PA sometime this summer.

I carry 14 clubs and a golf stick pro plus 9 balls and divot tools and tees. Feels light to me. Haven't weighed it all tho.

that is in a K1-Lo

I like my SL1, but the strap is a killer. I love single strap myself, but this one is so stiff and I can't seem to get it broken in. May look for a different strap to swap it out for.

I personally can't find anything that beats a simple Sunday bag. The Jones Players Series, Mac Original, etc. are the best bags hands down IMO. If a stand is an absolute necessity, you can opt for trestle sticks. The Ping Moonlite kind of takes care of that issue with the elevated strap system. The BRD2 Mizzy has the mini legs also.

Just picked up a Sun Mountain 4.5 stand bag

Will be walking more this year, but wanted

something a little larger with pockets over the 2.5

bag. Did save some money buying the 2019

model, appreciate the comments from this

thread, since I have not purchased a stand bag

In 10 years , and the comments played a role in

my decision.

Just got my 2020 Nike Air Sport. Fantastic bag.

Weight is 5lb 4oz - compared to 4lb 4oz for my 2016 Nike Sport Lite (Assume 2020 Sport Lite is the same weight)

The extra 16oz in weight is probably due to the added plastic top carry handle, the 'cooler pocket' material, as well as the extra 2 other pockets.

Overall the bag is very sleek, excellent for carry or for the cart, and the double shoulder strap is very comfortable. I wouldnt say its noticably more comfortable than the regular equa-flex strap, but its cool with the bubble material.

It's definitely a better upgrade than the 2016 sport lite which had the dual embossed pockets on the outside of the large apparel pocket. The 2020 version is much nicer.

Just purchased a Callaway hyper lite zero. 2.5 pounds and seems to be the highest rated light weight bag on the market.

I’ll let you all know what I think once it arrives.

Thanks for sharing! How’s the club tangle for the Air Sport? I’m really interested in this bag, but the divider configuration seems to be really similar to my Jones Utility Trouper, which has too much club tangle for my liking. Would appreciate any feedback regarding this aspect.

Trouper is similar to Sport Lite, not the Air Sport. Not the best naming system by nike.

Edit- Trouper will be identical to Sport Lite as far as tangle since they're the same setup. The same company makes those 2 bags.

Great to know! I did know that the Trouper was made by same company that made Nike bags, but somehow I thought the Trouper was similar in size to the Air Sport. Probably because the weights are similar (~5 lbs), and that the Trouper also has a plastic handle while the Sport Lite does not. Hopefully this means that the Air Sport will have a lot less tangle, and all the reviews I’ve read so far have not mentioned it being an issue
