Lightweight Stand Bags

Recommended Posts

Just a heads up for anyone with or considering a Ping Craz e Lite.  The top divider in mine snapped.  My woods kept sliding in with my irons. I’m not too worried about it as pings CS is great but i have had leg issues with this bag, and now this.

Also comes at a bad time while stock levels are nearly Zero. Hopefully im not waiting too long.

I am thoroughly enjoying my 2019 TM flextech lite. Coming from Callaway Chev, it feels way lighter and really comfortable

I have 14. It's a 4 way split. The only Annoying thing right now is that th3 stand will pop out as I'm carrying because the pressure from my back activates the legs.

Picked up a Titleist Players 4 Carbon to replace my broken Ping since the wait for a replacement is about two months.

the bag is nice... very nice actually.  I’m a big fan. It doesn’t carry as comfortable as the Craz e lite, probably due to the straps.   The titleist have these little bump patterns in the straps that make my shoulders uncomfortable but maybe that will break in over time.

A lot less club tangle vs the Ping, balances just as well with no major dip at the bottom of the bag widen a heavy water bottle is carried.

It is also sturdier with the legs deployed. It seems likE the legs kick out just a bit further with this bag which gives it some added stability which is pretty nice.

we will see how the straps do though.

I spoke with a Sun Mountain customer service rep over the weekend and they said the 2021 line of bags is coming out in October... So if anyone was on the fence and can wait a few months there might be some new color options for the 2.5+.

Nice!  I look forward to seeing whats coming.  Hopefully a redesigned 3.5.  it seems the most dated in the current lineup.

I definitely buy a new 3.5 if they made some tweaks and figured out how to increase the top diameter. I still love my 2.5+, but occasionally wish I had more freedom in the top for clubs and wouldn't mind another pocket or two.

The 3.5 is the only bag that hasn’t recently been redesigned so I feel it’s about time.

I would actually like to see the top get narrowed down a bit...maybe on future 2.5 models to see how light they could go but I feel there is plenty of room and still could be with the current design if they decided to shrink it a bit.

Great. How about in a push cart?

Highly recommend the Bag Boy carts for SM bags. Their top is designed to slot the leg mount in and the bottom is open-no binding on the foot for the legs.

I absolutely love the ping bags. I think I’m going to reach out to a local club to see if they can get me an all gray no logo.

I realize this post is a month old, but the bag you're describing is exactly the bag I have. Ping 2020 Hoofer in heather gray, no logos except on the plastic of the car grip.

But the weird part is I remember, or at least thought I remembered, it originally having all the normal branding. Then one day I had a weird Mandela Effect situation where suddenly they were gone. So either I'm losing my mind, the multiverse is crossing the streams, or i'm just really unobservant.  It was bought online through Dick's, however there's no non-logo version anywhere on their site so maybe it was shipped to them, and then me, by mistake? Anyway, I actually think it looks awesome unbranded and wouldn't change it.

Hey everyone,

Love this threat and thought I would add my two cents.

Brought home a 2020 SM 2.5+ and didn't fall in love with it.

Pros - Carrying position, club tangle, stand action (also hated this will explain), straps

Cons - stand legs (see below), style/missing 1 pocket, top design

I ended up settling on the TM litetech 3.0.  The carrying position is close to SM and the straps were not far behind but SM would win out on that.  The top design is better than the SM even tho the SM is larger with less club tangle.  The SM square openings cause the irons to be hidden behind the woods, I know its nit picky but hey, I'm going for the best bag possible.  The additional water bottle pocket (where I keep my range finder) is huge, it also helps the look/style.  The SM ball pocket is huge, and sits flat not giving the bag a great look.  The small pouch on the side you carry, the zipper having the bend in it toward the legs makes accessing this pocket so much easier, nice plus.  The clothing pocket on the back of the bag is much bigger on the SM but on the TM it is just large enough so that one goes to the SM.

The legs --  My big complaint with the SM is how wide the legs stick out.  It adds stability as the stand doesn't sit flat to the ground but being a Canadian kid and carrying my bag to the rink all the time it created a habit of using my hip/leg to throw the bag towards my back (just like you do when lifting your hockey bag).  When I do that with the SM, the wider leg doesn't retract in time and constantly would bang into my leg, yes I could just lift the bag straight up and then onto my back but habits like that are hard to break.  The leg action on the SM was nice tho, I see why people like it.

All in all both great bags but the TM edged out the SM on the things that I liked.  The Mizuno was nice and light but the dividers not being boxed in made it a pass for me along with the Titleist 4 Carbon.  Also the top opening on the Carbon is tiny!!  Did not have the Ping Craze-lite at the store but for 200 CND the TM was an easier choise, SM/CL both 340ish CND.

For me the TM base/legs, SM opening/dividers, TM pockets, SM straps at 3 pounds would be the ultimate lightweight stand bag!!!

The 2021 SM 2.5+ has the extra pocket above the ball pocket.  You call it the range finder pocket.   Just FYI.

You have a link to the catalog?? They told me IG yesterday it was just new colors for 2021... legs might still be a deal breaker but would like to see it.

I do not. I have just seen some pictures online of what they call a 2020 bag but it’s clearly different than what’s offered currently.

Wish SM would offer more all white or white/blue combo colors vs white/black.  Just a personal preference for white or light colored bags.

I may lean the royal/navy blue in the new SM 2.5+ once I can see it.

Question for you all: Any recommendations on a lightweight stand bag that has particularly long straps?

I'm a really broad-shouldered guy, and it's difficult for me to find golf bags, backpacks, etc. with straps that are long enough to get on and off without fighting with them every time.

I'd been thinking about the Ping Hoofer Lite, the Sun Mountain 2.5+ or 3.5LS (because they make the lefty version), the Titleist Players 4 Carbon and the TaylorMade FlexTech Lite, but I'm open to absolutely anything.

And one more question: How water-resistant are those bags? Do you all sweat walking in light rain with them? I know there are waterproof versions, but they all have pretty in-your-face designs (like the Sun Mountain H2NO), whereas I prefer something very plain.

Driver: Ping G430 LST 9* | Fujikura Ventus TR Blue 6X

3W: Ping G430 Max @14* | Fujikura Speeder NX Blue 70X

7W: Ping G430 Max @20* | Graphite Design Tour AD DI 8X (or sometimes G430 3H with Tour 2.0 Chrome 85S)

4 Utility: Ping iCrossover @23.5* | Graphite Design Tour AD DI 95X (or sometimes G430 5H at 25* with Tour 2.0 Chrome 85S)

Irons: Ping i230 5-UW | Fujikura AXIOM 105X

Wedges: Callaway Jaws Raw 54/12W@55/13W, 60/12X | Nippon Modus 125 Wedge

Putter: Bettinardi 2024 BB1 Wide
