Lightweight Stand Bags

I've ordered a Jones Original to try.  Got paired with someone that was using it and it looked perfect.  I had no idea it was as slim as it is.  As long as I can get the pockets to work for me I think it might become my primary bag.  My concerns are where to put my water bottle and laser, but I think I have a plan that will work.

I like my Jones Players Series, although I wish now that I'd ordered another color than the heather brown.  Might put it up on BST and get a different one.  I keep my laser pouch clipped to the towel loop, and water bottle in the mesh pocket.  I find that the smaller of the two pockets on the top is almost unusable, a cell phone barely fits.  Not sure what's supposed to go in there; I pretty much just toss everything into the big pocket on bottom and balls and tees go in the larger pocket on top.

My laser is very slim, hoping it fits in the smaller pocket of the Original Jones

Sun Mountain > Hoofer for me personally.

I think a lot of other people feel that way as well.

The worst club tangle I've ever experienced came when I had a (short-lived) Hoofer.

After everyone recommended a Hoofer over and over to me I was totally stumped as to why I had a problem. Then I started finding posts from people who had club tangle but seemed to accept or excuse it as part of having a Hoofer. Drove me nuts. No thank you, never again.

Personally I use a push cart so I prefer a Hoofer stand system rather than the mechanism that comes on the SM bags. Don’t want to deal with the legs popping out all the time on the push cart and having to constantly adjust it. I also think the materials, straps and pockets of the Hoofer are unbeatable.

I’ve used a few Hoofer over the years.  I will say EVERYTHING about the bags other than the tangle is perfect.  They are so well thought out.  The pockets are perfect.

But that tangle though......

I think for a lot of folks it comes down to hire much you can tolerate the club tangle.  If you can tolerate the tangle, Hoofers are hard to beat.  If the tangle bothers you, Sun Mountain is a great option.

To me personally, tangle is a deal-breaker because it’s something you have to deal with every time you pull a club out of your bag.

I just can’t look at a bag as well designed if you’re constantly dealing with massive club tangle. Other things I can compromise on, but club-tangle makes me too frustrated/annoyed.

I think the club tangle on the Hoofers is overexaggerated on here. I've had a Hoofer Lite for about 6 months now, and the only time I ever have an issue with tangle is putting a club back in the bag after I've used it (never had an issue pulling a club out). Maybe 20% of the time it falls about 3/4 of the way into the bag and then gets hung up a tiny bit.

However, the instant I pick up the bag and start walking the club falls into place. I've never once found it to be aggravating or even slightly annoying.

I could see it being an issue if you have oversized grips, but if that's the case then pretty much anything shy of a staff bag is going to cause some club tangle.

Which Hoofer lite do you have? What year/color

2020 version. All black. I can honestly say it's the best bag I've ever owned.

I believe all they did for the 2021's was update the colors so the current bags should function the same as the one I bought last year.

Why does no one ever talk about Callaway bags?  Like the Chev or new Fairway bags? I know the materials on them aren’t great, but what I’ve observed they have no club tangle

Pretty sure they're Ogio bags, no thanks

If you're using a push cart a pound or two shouldn't matter, so I'd look for push cart specific bags - Anything from PING, Sun Mountain, Ogio, etc. that's made for a push cart should fit the bill.

Ya I mean I prefer a stand bag that’s a little bit on the lighter side for when I carry to from the car and to the range

I think the key factor there is what type of push cart you use and whether the bag’s base fits with your cart.

If you’re only carrying your bag from the trunk to the range, most stand bags would be light enough. The question is which will fit best with your push cart if that’s what you’re using it for the most.

Tangle is absolutely a deal breaker for me and it's crazy to me that it isn't for others. It's literally the one thing a bag is for - to store my freaking clubs and allow me to pull them out and put them in between shots. If that doesn't work smoothly, I really don't care how many cleverly designed pockets it has.

Sorry, this is weirdly one of my Seinfeld topics.

Agree 100% 🎯

Gotcha. I’ve never used that push cart...maybe someone that has one can chime in on what bag fits well with it.

This is the bag I’ve used since I won it in 1995. I had hopes that I would find something that would be my “perfect” bag. That isn’t going to happen and I’d rather use this bag for another season than buy something I really only kinda like. So I will wait for the 2022 lightweight bag thread. But until then, I’d like to throw my idea of a perfect bag out into the universe and hope that somebody that can make it happen sees it (I’m hinting to you, Ping).

The current body of the Ping L8 in both size and material. That polypropylene screams durability. Double straps like from the Hoofer series (although making the velour straps from the L8 into double straps would be great too). Internal leg mechanism. Four way top with the handle worked into the top, again like the L8. The pocket layout and sizing that is used on their Craz-E Lite bag. Add a couple of tee slots along the spine akin to what Sun Mountain does on their bags. I know that because of how the base operates the legs that actual full length dividers aren’t possible but this is an area someone smarter than me could come up with a solution/improvement. Lastly make it available in all of the colors offered through custom team program...royal, navy, grey, green, red, white, orange, maroon, etc.. even if this becomes a product that has to be custom ordered, that’d be ok by me. So I won’t hold my breath but will cross my fingers.
