Ideal Wedge gaps?

Recommended Posts

What are ideal yardage gaps for wedges? I’m wondering if mine are too close - I thought 12-15 yds was good. This is first year with modern clubs and lessons so these distances are all new to me.

JPX-919 Tour, D4, Modus 125 stiff

T7, D5, DG Wedge flex. PW-SW all same length.

I can use heavier and/or shorter wedge shafts to space them out? Or adjust lofts? Or just leave it alone?

Thanks for your time and thoughts!

8i 145

9i 133

60 LW: ordered before gapping but didn’t have yet.

There is NO ideal yardage gap that I am aware of. It depends greatly on each persons ability to comfortably cover the yardage spread between clubs.

Example, my 47* PW is about 118yds, my 52* SW is 105yd and 58* LW is 90yds. I adjust my swing mechanics to increase or decrease distance with each club to target in-between yardages. Another factor is specs and how each club is used, like I seldom hit LW over 65yds.

Wedge distances offered:

9i 13346 PW 12050 GW 11156 SW 10260 LW: ordered before gapping but didn’t have yet."-------------------------

These are your scoring clubs. Good gapping for full shots. As for 9i-PW: Coke down on 9i to shave yardage, play PW back a little to deloft, gain some yards.

To know for sure, prepare a wedge matrix that shows yardage distance with different length swings.

The clock-face method comes from short-game guru Dave Pelz. He explains things in the video below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0N9eVJxpZGYPelz lays out his system of wedge and chipping mechanics in his 2000 book Short-Game Bible. He now works extensively with Cleveland golf on wedges, and operates several short-game schools in the USA and Europe.
