Should I get fitted for a driver while still working on swing faults?

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to fix my early extension in my swing and flipping the club.

I have been using a mevo to record my swing and get stats.

Im getting 100 to 108 swing speed with 1.2 smash factor with the early extension swing. Only 220 carry according to mevo.

Should I wait until my swing fault is fixed before getting fitted for a driver?

You still might be able to make some equipment changes yourself that can at least improve that smash factor some and therefor gain a little distance. (it's horrible if it's accurate - you could visit a retail store and 'demo' some new drivers to check those numbers depending on what they have for an LM).

This thread will tell you how to do some of your own tune-up work on your current driver that might help out a bit while you're working on your swing (I hope with a pro).https://forums.golfwrx.com/discussion/909991/diy-driver-tune-up-diy-fitting/p1

Yes you should wait. But if you want to get a baseline you could do what Stuart said and maybe a different driver will assist in your journey to a better swing.

if He’s a competent coach/ instructor he can evaluate if your equipment is holding you back. Have a conversation that you’d like a new driver. The adjustable options may help mitigate some ball flight issues that makes things more fun while getting better

You're swing speed is definately fast enough to make it worth trying a stiffer flex - maybe even x-stiff for some models. But there is a lot more to selecting a shaft flex than swing speed. And unless it really feels too soft to you and your current shaft is what you're used to then there may not be any big rush to change.

But you have to keep in mind that there is no standard for flex. So which flex will be best will depend a lot on the particular shaft model. You might find reg works best for one model, stiff for a different model and even x-stiff for a third model. You just wont know until you start testing different options out. And it's also going to depend on what stiffness feels best to you and what seems to work better for your particular swing and sensitivity to the stiffness.

I Have two drivers now.

An sldr reg flex when I hit it on the screws it goes really far but its not exactly a fairway finder.

MY other driver is get this....a Ping g2 in whatever flex it came in its not listed on the shaft.

I borrowed the PIng one day from an old timer I play with and it finds the fairway but it goes really high and I feel im losing yards .
