What’s Replacing Your Ping G400 Max for 2020?

Had a g400 max, replaced with 400LST.

Replaced the 400LST with Srixon z785.

Replaced the srixon with M5 just as an experiment.

Ordered a Cobra SZ to replace the M5 for 2020.

I bumped mine last year, but it is back in the bag for 2020. I’m giving up 15 yards or so but I just hit so many more fairways with the MAX...

Nothing. I’ve plenty of distance and I’m not bothered by the sound. No reason to even demo anything unless this changes. Been using mine for about a year and a half.

G410 has been nothing but good to me! Had to make the change!

Made a brief switch to 410 plus, but just couldn’t get it dialed in. Strikes are so consistent with the 400 Max. I am curious about the ST200, but I don’t think I’ll ever part with the Max.

Absolutely nothing. I am delighted with my G400 Max - by far the best performing driver I have ever used (previously worked my way through a few Titleists, then Pings - Rapture, G15 and Anser - I still have the latter for days when I want a lower ball flight).

I was never fitted for my driver but I hit my brothers M5 that he had fitted for him and I literally hit it 40yds longer. It just hits dead straight line drives where my Max has beautiful trajectory but I know I’m losing big distance. Most likely will buy a M5 or see about getting fit for a SIM

I switched to the PXG 0811 XF

I bought the G400 MAX for the forgiveness, but sacrificed distance + feel/sound. But the PXG is on the same level if not more on forgiveness in terms of MOI.

 

I went from Epic Flash Sub-Zero -> G400 MAX tighter dispersion, but lost distance 10-20 yards.

G400 MAX -> PXG 0811 XF ended up with similar dispersion, but gained back the distance. Loving the feel/muted carbon sound. I even had to go down from 10.5 to 9 degrees due to the lower spin lower launch characteristics of the 0811 head

Ive been carrying Ping drivers since 2015 when the G30 series came out and have generally been happy.

In February I was playing with some co-workers at a resort. They had rental Callaway Rogue drivers that went a mile. I hit a few drives with the Rogue and they were longer than my G30 LS with my shorter shaft but it was a lot of fun playing from the fairway all day.

Net result is I ordered a G400 Max from our Canadian big-box on a great sale, unhit, but trusting the viewpoints here that it is a driver for the fairway. Besides I have a collection of shafts to try out already if I don’t like the stock shaft.

From the sound of things real golf is only a few weeks away here, so I look forward to experiencing on the course what my mind is promising: ore fairways with acceptable distance

I hit a couple low in the heal stinkers today with my g400max and then I remember that's why I play that driver. No loss of distance, still in the fairway.

The G400 Max was my favorite driver of my life. It wasn't even close.

I replaced it last month with a Cobra Speedzone Extreme. I am very close to calling it official and selling the G400 Max. The Cobra is just as forgiving and is a bit longer. And although it is superficial, it feels/ sounds better at impact.

I've played the Cobra for about 6 rounds so far. I may take the PING out next time just to give it one last chance to keep it's starting job.
