Um, trackman and gc4 are more than just a simulator, they dont calculate hardly anything, rather they actually MEASURE data, which is completely different. Are they 100% accurate, well no nothing is, but its accurate enough to give you distinct differences in balls (if there are any).

Most experts would say you shouldnt choose a ball based driver performance, they are all so similar and makes very little actual real world difference. There are a few outliers- like the mizuno rb and one of the “cut” balls-but even those arent that far off. Most experts would say pick your ball based off of short game. How does it feel putting, chipping, pitching etc. Does it provide adequate spin?

Where are they doing full range ball fittings? You suggested a launch monitor and in that case you are most likely doing it indoors and of course it is calculating the rest of the shot.

On the course is the best place to determine your equipment and that will never change.

indoors the only thing it is calculating is distance. Speed launch and spin all measured. Real grass vs a mat can be change the numbers but will change the numbers for every ball uniformly. Good fitters know this and can still put you in the right ball in an indoor fitting.

Maybe that’s my problem. I have not had a good experience with fitters. I have been better off testing myself. That LM info is certainly useful to a good fitter

Well i promise you there are certainly bad fitters, so that doesnt surprise me.

To get back on track -  Seems like even more of their tour staff have dropped the TP5x and went to the TP5.

 

Frankly I find the naming confusing because in Titleist and Srixon the X ball actually spins more in the mid and short irons. But it seems like the TP series is the opposite.

So if I am having overspin issues with prov1 and prov1 left dash on irons and wedges, is tp5x the next stop?

I played the TP5X on Saturday and I had a few of the longest drives with my GAPR 3 mid to date. There were 3 holes where I was not just further down than normal but I was much further down than normal. My regular ball this year has been the Z Star with a few rounds of Maxfli Tour X thrown in. From 8 iron thru the wedges, the TP5X was dropping and stopping within a few feet of landing.

I have been playing the TP5X now for about 1/2 a dozen rounds and I really like it. Its nice and long, its tighter on dispersion and its the best ball I've ever played in wind.  Versus my previous ball (ProV1) it doesn't stop quite as quick on approach shots but not by much.  Whereas the ProV1 was usually 1 to 2 feet from my pitchmark the TP5X is a step or two.  I would say the tradeoff has been a good one.  On short game shots and putting it feels just as good though as the ProV1 though admittedly I'm not a high spin guy on those kinds of shots.  I still have a few sleeves of ProV1s so might switch back for a couple of rounds just to see but as of now I would say the TP5X is the better ball for me.

I've been playing ProV1x for a few years and found a mint TP5 on the course the other day and played it on the back. It flew longer, held its line well in the wind, had great spin, and felt softer. I switched over for the last few weeks and think I am sold. I tried it against the X but felt the regular version stopped better and was a tad softer.

Appears I'm late to the part by almost 6 months, but for those who feel like arguing about feel versus monitors (both of which are important), here is some data from the PXG swing robot testing balls. Hard to eliminate more variables than that. That being said, if you think a ball feels like trash, is it worth the extra 200 rpm either way?
