What is he speaking his mind about? As another poster said, these elite clubs represent a tiny percentage of the golfing fans and public. He is free to go wear his hat backwards and untucked shirt in the other 10,000 golf courses in Florida, right? Does he want Warren Buffet and Bill Gates to go around Augusta with their hat backwards with a zip cord hanging off their shoes? Would that make him happy?

You nailed it here. Most people getting upset over his comments are the exact ones he is targeting. I haven't a clue how anyone can stan Pat Reed while trashing Brooks. He may ruffle some feathers with his comments, but at least he plays by the rules while he's within the ropes.

Golf will change. The old heads will die, and the younger generation will carry it into the future. Stuffy clubs will slowly dry up. It's going to take some time, but change is coming. There will always be the elitist clubs as those with money love nothing more that separating themselves from the common folk. But I have a feeling their numbers will only continue to decline.

Most posters in this thread are proof that celebrities should have Public Relations folks running their communications. Whenever a guy like Brooks is sharing his honest opinion, he's viewed as a jerk.

But when Tiger spoon feeds sound bites to the media and makes everyone go all gooey, Tiger is a great guy.

You go, Brooks. A genuine guy is way better than a packaged product.

Well I was speaking more about his comments on other topics, not so much this one. But that's the point: It's refreshing to hear a dude speak his mind, whether I agree with him or not. And I don't fully agree with what he said here. I am just failing to see how it makes someone a douche for speaking their opinion. We all hold some controversial opinion on some topic out there, we just aren't 4x major champions with a microphone in front of us all the time to share that opinion. The main issue I see is some people disagree with BK so because they disagree he is a "douche" and "arrogant". Yep. "I don't like what he said so he's an *sshole" is the major vibe I'm getting.

More of the same - disagreeing with something he says doesn't mean someone automatically thinks he's a jerk. Need to be a little less invested maybe and look at the substance or lack thereof of the particular statement.

I know everyone hates Reed, but I have to say Brooks is the real problem here on the PGA tour, this guy just cant keep his mouth shut! Just looking at him anymore makes me despise him even more. The guy is a complete mess!

Would he consider Augusta National a stuffy old club. All they are doing is creating the ANWA and inviting the Asia Pacific amateur champ to the Masters among other things - like hosting the finals of the National Drive, chip and putt. Is he also saying he’d object to removing his hat in the clubhouse at Bay Hill? P Reed and B Koepka are both colossal jerks for different reasons.

I don't disagree with what he's said here. But there are times to remain quiet and be preceived a fool rather than open thy mouth and remove all doubt. And I don't hate Patrick Reed.

Rory is someone who speaks his mind without coming across as arrogant. I really liked Brooks until he started making comments like "I have better things to do than play golf in my free time" and saying that playing golf is "boring", which is exactly what he did on the Pardon My Take podcast. It was pretty obiovus when he was on there that he was playing up the "too cool for golf" attitude to impress the hosts since they are not at all golf fans.

They absolutely can, but they don't get to dictate our lives because they are "famous". Brook's doesn't get to change the country club rules of etiquette because he won a major. He's not more informed than everyone else just because he won a major. He's not entitled to being above the rest of society because he won a major. Athletes get an opinion, same as you and I, that opinion shouldn't be given more weight just because they are athletes.

Pre-cisely. BK will be 30 this year. He will get married and have kids soon. He will turn 40, then 50, yell at his kids for blasting their music too loud and getting facial piercings. And end up on the golf course at his country club complaining about the crazy attire that the youngsters are wearing.

 

For now, he is the hipster Golf Pro. Anti establishment country club member! Lol. Golfer at Augusta with a social conscience and sneaker head!

 

And that's cool.

 

But, he really needs to watch the smack he talks.

 

He gave Rory lip and Rory is now #1 in the world.

He gave Reed lip...and Reed just gave him a fat lip ; )
