I don't know BK personally but I imagine as a celebrity if people keep asking you your opinion on everything maybe eventually you will begin to think that they really care what you think.

Why is it a crime to have a private club? Why is it a crime to have a dress code or have rules at your club? Since when is it a crime to be successful and have a bunch of people get together and spend their money on starting and maintaining a private club?

There are plenty of public options for all. Private clubs are in the minority anymore anyways. If BK doesn't like it then so be it. He doesn't have to be a member. He has no issue though playing a tournament at a private club though, does he?

Money and time are the greatest hinderances to advancing the game. Not the private club.

I can hear, "I have an athlete's mentality and if that rub's people the wrong way, tough." in different ways.

One way is how you see it. One way is, "I am who I am, and some people aren't going to like it but that's how I treat the game. That's their problem."

This is completely different than if he said something like, "look, I'm going to play loud music on the golf course and not fix my ball marks and if that rubs people the wrong way, tough."

It's the kind of statement where it's only jerkish if you're pre-disposed to thinking he's a jerk.

An aside here...as if celebrity status confers a special intellect as well, i.e., he/she is an "expert" in politics, sports, or what have you, simply because they are a celebrity. The only difference between your opinion and a celebrity's opinion is the celebrity has a venue in which to express them. He said that he doesn't consider Rory to be a "rival", that he (BK) is #1 (keep in mind Rory surpassed him as #1 in the world since he said this) because Rory hasn't won a major in 5 years.

He said that PR is a cheater and the very next week, PR wins a WGC.
