Excuses for being a dirty SANDBAGGER!!!!!

Recommended Posts

What are the best reasons you've heard for not posting good scores or just being a dirty sandbagger in general?

From another post I made....

"I swear! My dog ate my scorecard!!!!"

"I'm forgetful, forgetting to post a good score will occasionally happen..."

"The GHIN app crashed on me! I can't risk posting twice!"

"Hey man, I posted that score, not my problem that GHIN lost it!"

"I'd post it but I forgot my GHIN login"

"I thought the stoke equity thing meant I didn't have to post good scores..."

"GHIN gave me a warning, so I got scared and didn't post it, I didn't want to be in trouble..."

Sand baggers don’t post their GOOD rounds, they only post crappy rounds and mediocre rounds.

Yup, that's part of the job a Handicap Committee is supposed to do, to compare the tee sheet with the posting records. If the "local reduction" (applicable only at his home club) doesn't work, the Committee could make an official modification to his HI, effective wherever he might play. The next step could be to completely withdraw his handicap. With a withdrawn handicap, he probably wouldn't be accepted into any kind of competition, although he might be welcomed in a money game by other cheaters.

I was not but also see your LOL -- but on a more serious note I belong to several clubs. most of the players are long time members so we all know each other pretty well and know their usual game. Some of us have scores that do not vary much and a few that have big swings in scores. I kinda like the new Exceptional score procedure using 7 strokes below handicap over the previous method of using 2 qualifying T scores for a base line and the application of reduction based on total number of T score on record. Now it will be quick and to the point.

It’s funny, but I’ve known many playing for money who don’t even take strokes in to consideration even with differing handicaps.

A couple golfers I’ve known, an 11 plays match with a 7 with no strokes favored, and they end up even every time. Their handicaps are official, but it turns out the 11 plays only the most difficult tournaments that he enjoys and scores terribly while the 7 is playing as many tournaments as possible simply because he loves competing. The 11 is not a sand bagger, but they play even, though they have an official 4 stroke difference.

If they played with anyone outside their group they let the others know their approximate average scores giving them a rough idea. Win or lose a 20 isn’t such a big deal. It’s just a game.

7 strokes is starting to push it a bit. Lol

Mostly play matches, I suppose they could filter through all the holes and determine which holes can be aggregated into a post-able score? Knowing these two and the others with them, I’d guess they’d prefer enjoying themselves at the 19th hole than standing around trying to remember which holes qualify?

My own handicap is similar. Posted tournaments. Mostly play match. When scoring, I’ve been known to shoot +3 then immediately +25 following. I would still be comfortable playing my official flight, and the HC committee in my club wouldn’t guess otherwise.

Its not that complicated, really, and if they want an "official handicap" they should really post scores as required by the "Official Rules". I'm not trying to hammer you, or suggest that these guys are doing anything nefarious, but they're not doing what they should.

I don't have time to post my good scores.....I am to busy sneaking into my friends houses at night while they are sleeping and stealing money out of their wallets...….Crazy though how when people suspect me of robbing them while they sleep, they really look down there noses at me but when I sandbag, they just chuckle and joke with me about it while I collect my winnings.

These do not apply to me but I'd like to hear them used ...lol!

"I consider my low rounds to be outliers so I toss them out just like I do with the odd shot during a fitting".

"You may call it sandbagging but I prefer to think of it as good gamesmanship."

"Hey, if you didn't want me to sandbag and take your money, why did you want to bet with me?"

I play from time to time at our club with a guy who will sweep up a two foot putt or two during the round (with not a word from anyone else in the foursome giving him the putt) and then say, "I really can't post that round - you guys gave me a couple putts." I've pointed out he can take his most likely score on those holes and still post - but he ignores the comment.
