I have been stranded since February. I broke a full bag fitting into two and had the Driver/Woods/Hybrid fitting back in February. Next up was the irons and then the pandemic and I could not take the iron fitting. At my initial fitting I actually snuck in a few swings with the Mizuno Hot Metal, liked it, and the fitter also liked my numbers.

Fast forward the fitter is open but they are not allowing you to demo clubs in the bay. I would like to try a few different brands in the game improvement category including the Miura IC-601, Srixon 585, Epon AF-706, XXIO eleven, Titliest T300 and others. I did find that XXIO has a demo program so those demo irons are on the way. But trying out the others before I get to a fitting in September is frustrating.

You would think it would be easier to demo clubs, especially at a grass driving range or on course. My fitter has a guarantee but I would rather try the clubs on grass before buying.

Mizuno said on the TXG YouTube that they do one production run for clubs and that’s it. If they ever sell out of a model, it’s because that initial run is gone - and they consider it a success.

 

The post lockdown rebound sale was more successful than they thought and emptied the warehouse.

If they don’t show something soon I’ll likely purchase a set of T300 or T400 irons.... intrigued by the Miura CB-301 but don’t think they’ll offer enough help. C’mon @vosh68 - let’s see the clubs!!!!

I guess that may be possible, but it seems incredibly unlikely. I can't see Mizuno doing one run to cover the entire 2 years a club will be sold. That would require a huge amount of warehousing clubs and lead to a lot of idle time in the factory since they have to make all of the clubs before a product launches. Since that retail launch date is supposedly 9/17, that means the factory will be sitting idle until they start building the MP-20 replacements which are a year away.

 

It seems more feasible that they were running out of clubs and decided that it wasn't worth doing another production run so close to the launch of the new product since they didn't want to have a lot of discounted old product sitting on the shelf next to the new stuff.

It's more likely that they are running production of the 921 models to get ready for product launch.

Yes, they are definitely running the next model now, but they would have known 6 months ago that they were going to run out of inventory. The decision on whether to do another production run was made a long time ago probably around the start of COVID in China (late 2019). They had to either risk running out of inventory or potentially have a ton of product sitting on shelves depending on how COVID affected the market.

I am looking forward to seeing the new tour iron but I will not be switching from the 919 tour. That iron is so perfect.

I feel lucky I got them. Must have been one the last of the custom orders.

I don’t think the 921 Tour will be a huge departure from the 919 Tour. Subtle tweaks is all that’s required. The 919 Tour is so popular on Tour I just don’t see Mizuno getting too carried away.

They have to order and buy from the HQ factory for Western Mizuno.
They order a specific quantity of clubs and can “sell out” if demand is higher than expected.
You’re right that they alternate years between JPX and MP lines, so it’s not like they sit idle for a year. They probably spend 6 months a year making Japanese clubs/JDM stuff and 6 months making that year’s JPX OR MP line.
If you were really curious, you could tweet Chris Voshall (or maybe he’ll see this, yikes!) and ask what the production runs for irons look like and if they differ from the woods. Although, I guess @ski350 was the one who was disappointed they ran out early.

Well, This year I got into some Mizuno irons for the first time. I bought an old set of MP-68's in great condition as they were still an upgrade over my old sticks. Now I've got the itch for some newer tech so this is greatly anticipated.

Fingers crossed they reduce the offset on the tours. Those irons are perfect in every way accept for the offset. They need to give us true players CB offset a la the titleist CB or even the T100

Hmm. I agree. Whether the really numbers are different or the same. The 919 tours “appear” to have more offset. That is partly why I have been playing the cobra king forged CBs. Straighter too like and less offset. At least to my untrained eye. Haha.

All kidding aside, I just don’t see it personally, and I think it’s irrelevant and it’s over analyzed on here, more so by anyone who isn’t a +cap or playing competitively at the highest of levels, either pro or amateur.

The only reason would Mizuno reduce offset is because they reworked the weighting/CG of the club and taking out offset for playability is necessary.

The hosel to leading edge transition can play a big part in perceived offset. They could clean that up and keep the “playability”.

 

That being said I would also prefer less offset in the tours.
