For us less educamacated folk, can you tell us what that means? Is chromoly a different metal than what they used to use? Is it lower quality?

Last few years, 1025E HD Forged, 1025 forged with boron, and chromoly, which has to be less expensive.

I think this will be first forged chromoly, so none of us will know until we hit them.

I trust Vosh has done his homework and will deliver us a great line.

They used Chromoly in the Hot Metal and HMB irons. It’s lighter and stiffer than steel but heavier than aluminum, basically allowing Mizuno to make it thinner and faster but still flexible enough to bend. Cobra used it on the faces of the Forged Tec black and Utility black irons. Makes ball go boom.

TXG has them in hand. Just brought the bag of heads in front of the camera on the video just released. Seemed like they didn’t know exactly when it is appropriate to share the release. I am sure they are going to break them out for the public soon.

 

From the back 921F looks like a thicker GI iron.

Angles can be deceiving though.

Less angular and more rounded edges. Maybe More of a polished finished compared to 919F.

I am curious on the top line.

Do you know if they’re hollow? Not asking whether they are or not - rather do you know? Guessing those details would be embargoed for now...

I don't know. I would guess they are using a similar undercut process like they did before so it will be hollow'ish....

Thanks. If true, then the big difference is the material and performance gains associated with chromoly. Guess they could have moved weight or added tungsten internally...

The Forged will truly be a huge hit for Mizuno. Softer grade chromoly than the 919 HM models for feel with better ball speed. Boron complaints will give way to the lack of copper underlay complaints!

921 Forged CM is like the 919F and the 919HMP had an evolved baby to merge two iron families into one taking the best of both for 2021. Pretty excited to hit them!

Just spoke with my Mizuno rep. He has the heads and he has hit them. He said the 921 forged are softer than the 919s even with the switch in material. He said they are faster off the face as well.

Will be interesting to see if they’ll be able to make them more forgiving then.... I guess they can make it faster across the entire face with chromoly.... wonder if they can drive the COG lower with one piece though. I’m going to stop pondering this and wait for details.... yeah right!!!

Chromoly in general is usually more expensive than mild steels, but I don't know if the particular alloy they are using is more or less expensive or if it is more or less expensive to work with. It could be that the material is more expensive but cheaper to work with resulting in a net zero.Chromoly is just a particular type of steel. It is definitely stronger than a mild steel and may or may not be heavier depending on the alloy. However, due to it's increased strength, you can make it thinner to achieve the same strength which will result in a lighter section. A thinner chromoly face will probably allow for even greater discretionary weight placement.They definitely don't look hollow to me. The cavity actually looks pretty deep to me.

Do we know for sure that there will be a 921 HMP? Wondering if they are moving the hot metal closer to straddle the line between the SGI & GI segments and making Forged straddle between GI & Players distance and only offering 3 options. Would eliminate some overlap between clubs in the 919 line and also thin the options at the better player end of the spectrum.

The more I read here about chromoly, the more I like it. There was a fair amount of overlap between the 8 models of MP-18 and JPX 919. Looks like the MP-20 / JPX 921 “pecking order” will go like this...

MP-20 (1025 MB’s)

921 Tour (1025 CB’s)

MP-20 MMC (1025-Ti GI)

921 Forged (Chromoly GI)

MP-20 HMB (Chromoly Hollow)

921 Hot Metal (Chromoly SGI)

I’m definitely on the MMC / 921 F train for new irons in 2021.

Wonder how Chromoly compares to Boron with regards to bag chatter, I know my 919F look pretty good for being 2 years old, not as much bag chatter compared to other clubs I have used.

I'm pretty sure they weren't . I think chromoly got introduced in the 919 series. 900 series would be earliest. 64's were basically a muscleback. Had that diamond muscle or something. 64's are great clubs ha

I would think that the HMB and the 921 Forged would be swapped. I'm thinking they take the specs from 919 forged and move it more towards GI. It already had more offset and a thicker topline than HMB and I'm thinking they increase both slightly. This move would coincide with the elimination of HMP and make 921 forged the logical club for those people. It would also be one of the only GI forged irons out there.Chromoly steel is stronger than the mild steel infused with boron. Hopefully that would make it more resistant to bag chatter.

I think we're all just speculating right now, but HMP did occupy a space somewhere in the middle of several other offerings. I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to eliminate it and get those people into one of the other products, mainly a new 921 Forged that is more GI than the outgoing 919 forged.
