Not looking to re-hash an argument from 20 days ago and I'm in full agreement that the equipment is great (I'm looking to buy some for myself), but 99% of golfers as a whole have no idea what is in the bag of any tour pros outside of Tiger, Phil, Rory, and a handful of others. I'd be willing to bet that no more than half could even tell you that Brooks K. is a professional golfer and that is after he has gotten a ton of pub lately for his psuedo-fued with Bryson.

Mizuno's market share overall is small therefore by definition, the 919 market share has to be even smaller since some people do still play the MP-20 line even though 919 is their best seller.

Wow. I wish I could make the same decisions.

I think Mizuno is one of the few companies that is growing and growing quickly. They added putters, and balls, and their wood offerings are improving every year. You can now play Mizuno products top to bottom and have it all in a Mizuno bag.

You are correct that they are smaller but, I think they are set up very strong.

Agree completely with you about where the brand is headed.

I am still unconvinced by those in this thread that maintain that it was a "smart business decision/strategy" (for whatever reasons) to stop taking custom orders for their best selling line of clubs back in June and then completely run out of stock clubs to buy off the rack by mid July when the new product won't be in customer's hands until Sept. 17 (or later for custom orders).

Well they didn’t necessarily stop. Mizuno orders a specific amount of components ahead of time and thats it. If they run out they run out. I guess they just under projected.

I know that is kind of Symantec’s but there is a little bit of a difference. At least I think so.

I know why they stopped taking orders and I'm sure it wasn't on purpose. They clearly underestimated the demand post-lockdown. They probably figured the US would do what the rest of the world was doing (lockdown until the virus was controlled) but we didn't and golf sales have seen a resurgence since it is one of the few sports people can go out and play. They made a bad decision / bad sales projection, etc but there were people on here telling me that it was somehow a "good thing" for the brand to not have the 919 line of clubs to sell.

I don’t think Mizuno selling through the 919 line prior to the 921 being ready to roll out was a decision Mizuno made at all. The golf club buying consumer’s demand for the 919 was greater than what Mizuno had in inventory.

I’m not sure sitting on old product inventory while you are promoting a new product line is good for business either.

I am not smart enough to know if it is/was a good thing or bad thing. It seems there is big interest in the 921 release and they are adjusting really well to the current climate.

But, I can 100% say ping deciding to push their release out a year is a bad thing for them. Plus they are back ordered for almost a month for anything.

of all the companies Ping handled And is handling the lockdown the worst.

Ping has opened the door for Mizuno and cobra to take huge amounts of market share for them.

I can tell you, PING's primary focus during COVID and post COVID was and is 100% employee safety. Everything else comes after that. They are fully aware of the financial implications of sales, and are just fine with it. I think it's an admirable stance for a company, not surprising given the family behind it.

Maybe they’ve determined that for their company it’s better to make a set amount of each product and then move on to the next thing. Perhaps they’ve done their sales projections and determined that it’s more profitable to not chase the highest possible figures & let inventory run out instead of overproducing and running the risk of having dead stock at the end of a product cycle. Could it be that included in their main goals are to never run clearance sales and to ensure that their factory is never building clubs that won’t sell? Maybe they did underestimate demand but maybe it was legitimately done on purpose.

Because that’s exactly how Mizuno runs their shop. You can be as sure as you want that the 919 shortage is a big mistake, but this is the way they’ve always done things and it seems to be working out okay for them.

IMO an additional reason for the sell out of the 919s was the price point. I had a price quote of $750 for 4-P. Unfortunately, I ordered 1 day too late and missed out.

New line up is as follows:

Jpx921 Hot Metal

Jpx 921 HMP

Jpx 921 Forged, will be smaller heel to toe and thinner top line and sole, 1* stronger lofts than 919 forged

Jpx921 tour, they have added a gap wedge

Jpx 921 SEL, which I believe will consist of 3-5 in 921 forged and 6-pw in 921 tour

921 tour lofts remain the same, just adding a GW and done cosmetic changes. They still look great!

The 921 forged lofts are 1* stronger in the 4-8 only if I remember right! There will also be a 921 forged GW.

I also believe all irons will come out at the same time!

There is also a new wedge coming!
