Mizuno JPX Line

I talked to Mizuno yesterday and was told there was only a couple being added. A new light weight steel option and a couple black out shaft options. The LZ being one of them.

I've never blindly ordered irons without being fit, but I'm getting that weird feeling to hand over my CC. Only thing is if the Project X LZ's aren't an upcharge then I would have a decision to make

Full details about the line up are being released on Monday as per Mizuno on Insta. No word yet on whether there will be a matching gap wedge for any of the models.

I should have emphasised the word "matching". For instance with the Forged, are we talking a gap wedge with a cavity that looks like the rest of the set, or a generic JPX bladed wedge which they've tacked on, but which isn't really part of the same set, as they have done in previous years?

Do we know who the ideal target is, in terms of handicap, for the Forged versus the Hot Metal Pro? Ignoring looks and feel, and focused solely on performance, forgiveness, etc.

I currently game the Mizuno Mx-200 from 2009, and finally looking to upgrade. For what it's worth, I'm a 10 index and hit my current 10 year old 7-iron 150.

I think there is a basically a generic 921 gap wedge for the HM, HMP, and Forged. I believe there is a specific gap matching the tour. I seem to remember that being mentioned although I did not see it.

Can't always go off handicap, but at a 10, you know doubt can handle the Forged and most likely the Tour.

I don't think they directly state the handicap range for each, but my guess is you're right in the zone for either of those clubs. HMP will almost certainly be longer and more forgiving and forged will probably have better feel and be more workable. You will probably need to hit both and see which you like better.

You could also do a blended set of HMP in the long irons and forged in the shorter ones for the best of both worlds.

Agree - a 10 handicap can handle the Forged for sure. I'm an 11 and play a combo of the Forged and Hot Metal. I think a 10 could easily play a combo of the Tour/Forged, All Forged, or Forged/Hot Metals. If I was buying now, I'd also look at the MMC combo'ed with the HMB.

You'll likely be looking at the Forged or Tours IMO. How's your ball striking with irons?

By no means would I say that I'm a great ball striker with my irons (I don't think any 10 handicap could!). In any given round I'll likely hit one or two either fat or thin, or catch one or two off the toe. That's why I feel like I should lean to getting the most help that I could get, as long as I'm happy with the size and look of the irons. I don't like anything that looks clunky, but I also don't like anything that looks too blade-like. I also don't think it's impossible to work the ball with something larger.

Assuming I'm in the middle of the fairway, I never really try to work the ball too much on my approach shots. I'll kind of go with what I have that day in terms of shot shape, but at the end of the day I'm basically just trying to hit the ball with minimal curve (unless I need to work it around something).

No tour for you. MX200 is huge and the tours are for true low single digit caps IMO. The forged or hot metal pros are gonna be your sweet spot. Can’t wait to hit both!

Just saw the JPX 921 line, and it’s absolutely fantastic! These are best looking Tours to date! The Forged are gonna kill it! The Hot Metals are much improved! If you don’t want to spend the $ for the Forged, the HMP will not disappoint looks wise, they just won’t feel quite as good!

Project X LZ black and KBS $ taper lite black at no upcharge! KBS hi rev 2.0 black wedge shafts at no upcharge also!

The forged are going to be $100 more than last year. I think that puts then close to $1400. Not certain, but for sure $100 more. Everything else will be the same.
