He hasn’t been as relevant since switching over in my opinion. He won off the back, contended in a US Open due to some great putting, but other than that nothing memorable like before. I had a feeling a switch would happen eventually.

IF he is leaving Honma, I'm wondering if this is more relationship based, ala Mark King, or equipment based? I mean his play hasn't been awful for sure. When he started with Honma he had the driver in the bag and IIRC he also had a Vizard shaft in it which rasied a few eyebrows. It's a relatively short time to go from all in to all out.

That shows that he’s currently a head case. Searching for something to spark some success. Because the 730 iron vs the honma irons he helped design are literally as close to identical as can be. No way on earth you’d see a difference in performance that they couldn’t adjust out of them.

If hes fighting his swing is there a chance hes going back to the TM stuff to limit the variables then back to Honma once he gets things figured out? I know he had some flexibility in his contract but there has to be some penalty from breaking it so early??

 

That being said, unless the telecast says something about it there no chance your average golf fan even realizes hes not using Honma as long as he's wearing the hat and carrying the bag.

Looks like the P730 have a different shaft also. Definitely not the matte finish of C-tapers in those photos. He's definitely searching.

 

It's not hard to imagine having some "buyers remorse" after leaving the company you've been with for 20 years and then really struggling. Especially at 39 years old his window for winning and winning majors it getting short. I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to go back to what is familiar to steady the ship.

Watching on GolfTV - definitely looks like P730’s through the bag - not sure about the wedges and woods though (haven’t seen them yet)

Def Sim driver, looked like a Callaway 3w. He used it to "chip" with on the 11th hole and was either the Cally cog or Titleist. Wedges are Titlesit, Wilson and TM.

I don’t think it was him leaving as much as it was TM not trying to sign him again. They were in a cost cutting stage and he didn’t make sense when they had young guys in the waiting and their wanting to add ball/glove contracts like rickie.

Yeah. Those two became excess weight when you have RIR and tiger on staff and from a euro standpoint the up and comer in rahm who they can ride for while compared to an aging Sergio and Rose.

Really Curious the $$ difference TM offered vs Honma. Has to be a serious amount of money in my opinion to switch. Not saying TM makes better clubs or anything but he was clearly playing amazing golf with their stix. Id assume the $$ difference can easily be made up in a few better tournaments per year unless its crazy $$

Personally I feel the same about Cobra, they make a great Mustang and their engines are top notch but golf clubs? Nah....

I don't necessarily know about that to an extent. I remember when Bubba Watson went to Volvik and that ball was a disaster for him. As soon as he went back to a ProV1, he won soon after. Maybe it's performance, maybe it's mental. But whatever Rose thought he was going to get performance wise, only amounted to the single win and then dropping out of the Top 10.

I'm watching on PGA Tour Live and saw the Project X shafts as well. Haven't noticed what wedges he's using on broadcast.
