Taylormade GAPR One & Done?

I hated the feel. It wasnt iron feel and not really hybrid either. Not very forgiving either which is what you look for in a club like that. Wasnt a fan of the shaft either. The UDI in more lofts wouldve been a better move from TM. Still I think its hard to compete, for any driving iron out there, with the Ping G410 crossover. Looks great, feels great, easy to launch both high and low and long and good shaft options.

I got a gapr low 3 iron a few weeks ago and it was good but it was to upright. I returned for a full refund. I just got a email for a bonded low 3 iron. I would think that can be bent flat so I may give that a go. The club felt and looked great though. I’m not sure why they didn’t gain more popularity on tour.

I have the gapr mid 3 and love it. I ditched the stock shaft and put a kbs $taper Lite xFlex in it, threw on some lead tape to get it like d4 and boom! I really like the feel. Also fits in the range between my 5 wood and a 4 hybrid.

Had the p790 udi 2 iron in the bag but this is more versatile. I can still hit lil stinger punch outs and also attack greens on par 5’s. Hit one green last week from 243 out which is prolly the best shot I’ve hit with this club. It isn’t going anywhere in the near future.

Re comment #7 "maybe OEMs just need to offer steel shaft options for smaller hybrids? A PGA player (can't remember his name) just stated that one of the clubs to consider is a higher lofted club with a steel shaft."

...might you be thinking of Webb Simpson's WITB? Titleist 915Hd (23.5 degrees, C3 setting), with a Steel Shaft (True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100): Link: http://www.golfwrx.com/592040/webb-simpsons-winning-witb-2020-waste-management-phoenix-open/

Related: Interesting podcast with Paul Tesori (Webb's caddie) , covering Webb's WITB (2020-02-07... the steel-shafted hybrid (slightly-shorter shaft) is mentioned around the +/- 10min mark ): http://www.golfwrx.com/592768/the-gear-dive-witb-edition-webb-simpson/

I tried it and didn’t like it. Forgiveness and distance were terrible. Severely punished on mishits.

Man not sure about lots of you guys who say they are horrible. I know everyone swings different so needs different shafts but man I love my Gapr 3 Mid and Gapr 2 Lo. I absolutely smash the piss out of the ball with both and my go to approach club or off the tee hitting 99% FW when hole is too short for Driver or too tight. I hit the 3 Mid 230 air and the 2 Lo 252 air. What else can you ask for

I have to say, I changed the shaft in my GAPR mid to a HZRDUS Black 95HC and this thing is automatic. Off the tee, the fairway, the sand, wherever - you'll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands. This and my 3 wood are the only clubs I'll never cheat on. They are the constants in my bag the last 3 years.

What Swing speed are you and Tempo?

The GAPR was a great all around club but I think after that release TM kept pumping out driving irons leaving the GAPR to be forgotten about. Used to fit a lot of people into them, one of the easier long iron replacements to fit golfers into because of the versatility and wide range of golfers each model fit.

I think the ugly green paint fill hurt it. People reacted to it. Change that and it’s  a nicer looking club.

In terms of performance, they’re really good. I owned one and sold it, but I have not found anything better at that spot. The GAPR Mid was my favorite. Perfect tweener size. TaylorMade makes very nice clubs in this category. The Stealth HD long irons look somewhat similar to the GAPR, but the GAPR had less offset.

thanks. I am looking at a GAPR Mid 5 to possibly replace my 4i. I may need to go for it.

If you’re getting a good deal, I would give it a go. The design is solid and it being adjustable is a plus. I tracked down a used GAPR Mid 4 myself as it looks more like an iron than a hybrid and I like that. Should have it this week. I may indeed strip the green paint and leave it all black or fill it back with a more pleasing color. It’s really the last spot in my bag I need to solve. I have trouble aiming hybrids.

Always good deals out there on strong performers that got labeled as ugly or got forgotten about in a sea of product launches! The ball flight you get with these is what’s beautiful.

I was considering the Stealth HD 5 iron — and I am one who does not mind medium offset — but the offset on those is too much even for me so I went back looking for a GAPR. I have hit all 3 and I like the mid the best. The GAPR hi is also a phenomenal club vs a typical hybrid.
