Be wary of members (new or old) who are responding to your WTB ads. Especially if they're insistent on forms of payments that do not afford buyer protections (ZELLE, VENMO, PAYPAL GIFTING/FRIENDS&FAMILY, ...) or provide an email address for someone else. We've had incidences of hacked accounts so be wary of old members as well. 

 

Request images of items displaying their WRX user ID and current date. Also, do a Google search on images they provide. Chances are they will show up in your search as items on eBay or some other site.    

Report the PM directly for review. DO NOT PM me.

 

UPDATE - 5-3-21 - We continue to see a rash of unsolicited offer emails from brand new accounts.  Format tends to be "I know someone who has a thing you might be interested in.  Email So&So at <email address>".  Do not respond to these unsolicited offers, and immediately Report the PM you've received.  We are working on ways to combat this using the forum software but please help us by promptly Reporting any suspicious PM's that you receive.

With supply shortages and long lead times for equipment, it is imperative that people exercise common sense and discretion. Don’t prepay without some sort of protection. 
 

If scams or frauds are suspected. Please follow this guidance. 
 

The best thing is to report issues to the proper authorities. We will cooperate with law enforcement as we have always done in the past. We will act on verifiable reports as well. Since no violations have been substantiated, we will monitor.

Never fails!  Someone with no feedback or other posts sends a message about his friend who has just what you're looking for, and tells you to email them.  They have the item FOR SURE!  But they need to be able to trust you and send you a phish link to what is supposed to be "google verification" or something like that to verify your identity.  When you refuse, they call you a fraud and a scammer (exactly what they are).

Quick question by a new member.  Is the cost to post an ad for new member $5 and it has to be posted within 3 days of purchase, or is it $5 and the ad can only be up for 3 days before it is taken down unless another $5 is paid for each 3 day renewal?
