Cancelled Trips? Corona Virus

Recommended Posts

I work at a large tourist area that works with the federal government. Yesterday, our COO said that the most difficult part of all of this is that they are getting updates every hour and the information will often change drastically from one hour to the next. That's the most difficult part of getting a handle on this.

Personally, I have a planned week long vacation in 9 weeks. 4 days in LA and 3 days in Vegas. I would say that it's roughly 60/40 that I still go just because California is one of the states they are most worried about and Vegas isn't exactly giving a lot of social distancing. I'd like to think I'm okay, but then others start to say that we are only at the tip of the iceberg.

I was scheduled to go to Paris for two weeks and London for a week starting March 31. I've been following developments for over a month. A few weeks ago I gave it 50/50 that I would go. As the days went by, the odds went down and down.

I have another trip scheduled to Ireland in July and August, part family vacation, part golf trip. Will it happen? I'll just have to wait and see.

Have a prepaid trip to Bandon in a couple weeks. Yesterday morning we were given the option to cancel, with a full refund. I've been to Bandon a few times, so missing this year won't be a huge disappointment. I have till Monday pm to decide.

The second trip I have planned is Scotland in June. My final payment is due next week. And I booked my flight last November. before the covid 19 situation arose. Since Trump added flights to the UK and Ireland to the suspension list today, which I kind of expected, I have no idea what I'm going to do now. I believe it's currently a 30 day suspension. I'm hoping the tour operator will put the final payment deadline on hold until this whole thing levels off. And I've played in the UK before, so I won't fret about not going too much. But it would be nice to play some different courses, and the the Old Course again.

Have a trip planned to Cabo at the end of April. Earlier this week I had resigned myself to cancelling. Surprisingly, my anal attorney buddy and cheap ass buddy (who were really lukewarm on the Cabo destination) were both still in favor of going. Living here in the Bay Area, probably less likely to get it in the Airplane and at the Resort then living life here (I do have to go into work on a daily basis, even if I can limit my hours there)...Still thinking though. And who knows, Mexico might not let us in anyway.

A group of us are going on a golf trip from Melbourne to Adelaide for 5 days strating tomorrow. Its only an hour's flight but we have to sit in the plane, eat at restaurants, go to pubs, stay in a hotel, drive a rental car, and visit the pro shop at the courses. All opportunites for the little monster to strike. Hopefully we escape. No-one has opted out yet but I would not blame them.

Am scheduled to go to Carlsbad at the end of April for fittings at The Kingdom and TPI. Most likely will reschedule for the summer.

Also have a trip booked for Bandon in October. No plans to cancel yet. But my income could be severely ok impacted if this stretches out another 2 months. Then I may reevaluate Bandon.

i was notified yesterday that Cache Creek Casino Resort, an Indian casino, is temporarily closing with no set reopening. I usually stay there on my way back from my Bandon Dunes trip. And play their golf course, Yoche Dede. Since I’ve decided to cancel Bandon Dunes this year, and there might not be a place to stay, I’ve cancelled Yoche Dede also.

Now I have to see what is going to happen with travel to the U.K. I have a trip planned to Scotland in June. Who knows what the situation will be by then.

We have a very large group (40+) going around that time. With final payment due on the 20th. It was the 18th, but out of the goodness of their heart, they gave us 2 extra days. They’re supposed to send us their updated cancellation policy if the cancellation is caused by a government mandate. If we just cancel on our own, we lose all monies.
