What is filling the void for you during the Tour shutdown? (NO CORONAVIRUS RELATED POSTS)

All golf is shut down here in So Cal. LA City closed its courses today. It's been raining a lot, been hitting foam balls in the garage, going to the beach to walk with wife. Sitting too much. Think I'm going to buy a skytrak.

started checking to see what the stores were out of when I visited.

1) toilet paper of course . Still see isles empty.

2) pork and chicken. Though it came back

3) ground beef this week .

4) potatoes starting to get stocked now.

Fear is a funny thing until you run out of toilet paper.

What is the most interesting is that people seem to have even more of a herd mentality when it comes to purchases. There was a run on meat early last week, didn't matter if they were ever going to eat it, they saw others with it and got as much as they could, then it was dry goods like flour, then eggs, etc. etc. The number of people that I saw that had like 5 dozen eggs and 3 gallons of milk in their carts over the past 3 weeks has been crazy. Maybe they live in a house with a lot of people and they need it, but I'm not so sure that's true for the majority of people who are doing just that.

I have been able to get out and hit balls the past few days at my club, but the powers that be are going to decide if the courses are going to be allowed to stay open in our new "safer at home" rules that have started. I have, so far, seen 2 other people in the 6 times I have gone in the past 2 weeks, but know that's not the case for everybody.

I subscribed to athletic motion golf (amg) at its outset and now am working through its lessons. Have a net setup in the yard with a mat, mirror vision. My swing is looking the best it ever has but I have no idea if I am actually hitting it better. Am tempted by skytrak. Gonna be a long time before I get to a course or range, I fear...

I think that wide grip pull-ups will have me covered for lats, at least as far as a little “maintenance”. I was doing 5 sets of lat cable pulldowns with working sets of 180x6-10. Never did pull-ups but now I am and can just do 5 sets of 8-15. Kind of fun. Keep doin em til I need to do weighted and then add it. Can’t do rows though, bummer.

Legs and deadlift muscles are going to suffer, don’t know how to do anything about that.

I'm one of those guys that has an impossibly bad mind/muscle connection with my lats. Since the shutdown, I've been doing a lot of single-arm dumbbell rows, really focusing on a full stretch at the bottom and a "J" shaped arc, pulling to my hip on the concentric. For the first time in ages, I'm actually able to get the lower portion of my lats sore...

My deadlift never really gets weak. During golf season, I'll stop pulling for 6, 7 months. When I go back to them in late fall, I'm usually still within 20lbs of my max. On the other hand, if I quit squatting for even a month, my strength drops quickly.

Lol, what’s up BDP.

Yeah, even more important now to try and get some exercise and blow off stress.

I gotta say, this body weight stuff is interesting. The wide grip pull-ups got me pretty sore, good sign. Then, I did 5 sets of push ups but did them slow, very deliberately. I could only do 5 sets of 12-20. Then I did 3 sets with my feet on the bed. And my chest and triceps are pretty sore next day. Not that I’m in Unckle Rico day form but I was just recently doing working sets of 205/215 on flat bench. So, that’s interesting too.

Im looking forward to the leg stuff now. Who knows, maybe I’ll stick with body weight stuff from here on ; )

I love old trucks. I would love an old ford or studebaker. Something in the early 50s.

I've been tempted to buy a skytrak for years. The virus shutdown put me over the edge, bought one used from someone here. Supposed to be here Sat. Figured out where to set it up (outside, where not much sunlight). I used to avoid honey-do's because, well, who wants to do stuff. Now it's 180 degree reversed. I want to do them but only do a little each day, so that I don't run out of stuff.

Are we there yet?

There are a lot of variations of bodyweight squats. For golf muscles in the legs I like to hold a 12lb medicine ball out in front of me and attach a looped resistance band to my legs and do crabwalks / monster steps. Forms important - feel really centered and balance but you want to feel pressure in the hip flexors, abductors and IT band areas. This is a nice muscle group to target if you have a few pieces of common equipment.

Nice, thanks, s4p. Yeah, gonna start some leg stuff this week. Been able to cycle a lot but need to get some resistance going.

Hit some pull-ups this morning in the park gym, lol! Was misty so nobody was there and the wet bar added a little challenge ; )

Oh, and that little yellow sign says something like,

“Caution, this equipment is not sanitized.”

I was in high school when Twin Peaks first aired and the hype/anticipation was insane. Killer Bob is still scary, the scene were he move across the room over the sofa freaks me out.
