TaylorMade Golf - ASK US ANYTHING

TaylorMade Golf

Recommended Posts

jll62, having had the chance to chat with some of our pros on the tour truck this year before the season was postponed, I asked this same question!!! Guys 5witch all the time. The main reason is spin. SPIN = CONTROL. If your spin drops too low with the TP5X then the TP5 is the way to go. Some guys want more spin at different courses. It also feels a little better to myself in colder weather like the Monterey Peninsula during the Att Pro Am. I attribute this to the slightly thicker cast urethane in the TP5 and slightly lower compression.

Which SIM model is the best for negative angle of attack? I'm about 2 down, 95 mph swing, 140 ball speed. I suffer from low launch, usually between 8-11. Need to get more output and figure launch and a little more spin will get me what I need.

I wouldn't wait! If you need a heavier weight, I would find a club fitter with a hot melt gun that could help you customize your swing weight! IF you are near the SF area, I could help you out while out on the road or at the Taylormade Performance Center at Pebble Beach!

I've currently got the SIM driver in the bag, LOVE it, and it has the S60x Limited in it. What shaft might be the way to go if I decide to grab a SIM hybrid? I'm used to M/M shafts and they typically perform nicely for me. I'm looking to possibly get my 8 year old hybrid out of the bag if the SIM can top it, which I believe it can. I'm currently gaming a Kai'li 85 in my hybrid.

On another note, I just wanted to add that I was never a fan of TM drivers in the past. I used to work corporate retail in the golf industry and had chances to game TM drivers but none never suited me until now. I'm glad I gave the SIM a go because it's transformed my total driving performance.

MerryTex, thank you for giving us the opportunity! Its been a blast fitting the SIM product up until now (damn coronavirus), but here's what I have for you. The Fuji Pro 2.0 will be the closest to what you have in your Kai'Li in our custom shop. That said, there is a world of shafts outside of what we offer! Here's what I have found on the line to be closest.

Redjeep83, I personally am interested in this as well as I am gaming the P750's still. The last time I was at our corporate HQ, I saw Matt Bovee, our Irons guru with a bunch of heads walking down the hallway. Pretty sure he had new product to show our guys in marketing as he stuffed them in his quarter-zip and ran right by me.

Gents, we get this question a lot at fitting events. The current answer is no, but Taylormade surprises me all the time. I would tell you that our current line up plus the upcoming high bounce options in the fall are perfect for our wedge fitting events and making sure that golfers have exactly what they need. In the upcoming future we will have a wedge fitting system that will allow us to swap shafts on wedges during fittings. How cool is that? Us fitters have been asking for years and its almost here!

I'm waiting patiently. Currently have P750 4 and 5 between a P790 3 iron and 6-PW P7TW. Just didn't get along with the P760, so I can't wait to see what's next.

@TaylorMade Golf I am looking at the SIM fairway ( not Max), as a whole, is the launch and spin higher in this model than with the M5 line. I need help with spin and launch when playing off the turf.

Gibbyfan, great question! Here is what I have seen in the field. The SIM TI has been a huge hit over M5. The 80gm steel plate on the bottom of the SIM fwy lowers the cg versus the M5. Its much easier to launch (than M5) and spins a touch more than the SIM MAX. The extra CC's also help with forgiveness and make this a rocket for most! I would also make sure you find the right shaft if you are looking to get the ball up in the air more. We have quite a few shafts in our custom line up that will get the ball up pretty quickly, so give our custom shop a quick browse. If you have questions on specific shafts to help increase your launch, shoot us a note!

Question about SIM. During testing I found that the shaft I played in SLDR 430 was a really good fit in SIM. Overall SIM seems like a SLDR 2.0 for me: benefits of high launch low spin, but is definitely more forgiving. Does that match up with what you've seen during fitting days so far?

1000%

I think the biggest difference from SLDR days is the number of tools we have in our bags now. Trackman, 100+ driver shafts of all different weights and flexes. We can really dial in the launch conditions of the driver versus the SLDR limited offerings. Its night and day for me as a fitter and part of the reason it's a lot of fun this year. We can fit anyone for a driver that fits their game.

Myhero, I’ve thought about it all night and that’s a long time to keep a set of irons. And to be honest they probably have some type of magic in them. I’d encase them in a glass case and label it “break in case of golf emergency.” Pull them out if you run into issues with your CMB’s or your clubs get stolen. I wouldn’t part with anything that got me through high school and a wife and 2 kids. They have reached legendary status.

Hoselshot, I’ll check with our iron guys to see what they say. I’ve seen wear pretty consistently the same on both. I think it will depend a lot on the turf conditions (more sand/rock), whether you hit off mats a lot and type of range ball you hit. Those factors can lead to quicker wear with any iron!

What are the odds of seeing a full face milled(not milled insert) putter?

I would love the putter below or one of many of the other models milled like this. I guarantee I'm not alone on this.

CK, you are not alone. I have 2 answers for you. The first is nostalgic. One of my first Taylormade putters was a KiaMa milled Daytona. It was beautiful, I had to oil it to keep it from rusting and it was beautiful. I currently don't know where it is and I would love something similar. The second is based on the 12 years of fitting I have with Taylormade. Our putters with the Pureroll insert roll the ball better than anything I have seen. Once you find the right loft, lie and head shape the insert does the rest. If my goal as a company was to be the best performance golf brand in the world, I would produce all my putters with Pureroll inserts. That said I would say odds are slim, but Taylormade has done a bunch of cool stuff in the vault lately. So who knows? I don't rule anything out these days.

Will this dent affect the performance of this Ardmore 3 putter? Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks. Just banged with other clubs while in a golf cart without a headcover.

Just got a text from one of our product engineers! Here's his response!!!

"Freddy. The face blast on the P7TW is much darker than other P-Series irons (by design and that’s what tiger likes) but the darker finish might be more susceptible to showing wear. All and all, it’s the same plating process we normally use."

theothertwo, that sucks! I've done this before and it eats at me. I get over it eventually, but every now and then I remember there's a chip on the underside of the hosel of my putter and have to take a quick second and refocus. On the good side, it looks to be slightly off the toe, so you should be ok! If you look about a 1/4 inch to the right you can see the wear pattern on where you hit your putts which means you look to be in the clear from a performance side. Go make some more putts!
