The whole site is just getting silly

Recommended Posts

"Silly" ? This from someone named "CupCup" ? LOL

Sowwy.

But #1 and #3 are clearly possible*.

#2 Oh well. First world problems I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

#1 - poke around a little. I'll bet you can find/figure out how to do it.

- #3 At the present time multi-quoting only seems to work with quotes from within the same page. i.e. if you hit "quote", it'll place it in the text box at the bottom. However, if you go to (presumably) the next page to do a 2nd quote, the first one is no longer there once you go to another page. At least that's what I've noticed.

Goodness gracious Dude.

What ARE you talking about ?

"Using long tedious code" ?

It takes 3 or 4 clicks to embed a video, either from an external site like youtube or from your own computer.

The one hawkeye posted above - copy the youtube url and then it's 4 clicks, as below.

"Bring back the old board" ? Wonder how you even KNOW about the old board since you only joined this past December.

Really?

Don't even know what that is intended to mean.

I enjoy the site but I don't waste time criticizing it - still not normally shy about asking questions if I have any (a thread started just the other day with one) and usually they get answered, and certainly not shy about expressing opinions.

Stands on its own merits, on balance IMO. If I didn't think so, wouldn't spend time here.

If you don't like it, I guess don't visit.

How did I know about the old forum if i Just joined in Dec? Well yeah thats another issue I have to complain about. I logged in with my old username but unable to login as it says said I need to reset password.. I'm going to be straight up I cant remember the email adresss I used to sign up to this site. But imo it did not matter as long as I had my username and password saved. I pretty much gave up but I guess covid boredoom brought me back and only just. However not being able to search for the forum for most replies or multi quote was a final nail in the coffin.

Anyone else’s page shoot to the bottom when loading a thread you’ve started to read already?

Gotta say, my usage of the site is down probably 90%. I used to check it 4-5 times a day and post a ton. Now, I’m lucky if I read once or twice a week and rarely post. I used to buy and sell on the BST like it was a hobby of its own

I understand the limitations placed on the site owners by vanilla forums, but we’re a year removed from the migration from the old platform and it doesn’t seem like it was worth it. Longtime users have left, and they’re never coming back.

I get the site potentially crashing, but this change in my opinion hasn’t amounted to all it was cracked up to be. Maybe it’s a lack of enthusiasm on members’ part, but the social media hotspotting, and all the other features that were championed as revolutionary have barely been a blip.

Im not sure what the path forward is for GolfWRX but some continual updates and interaction with members on the state of updates would be helpful in creating a sense that the site is continually improving. I’m sure lots of work has been done in the past year, but a list or update about those things could be beneficial. I understand that mods have gotten abuse from members over the changes, but a bit more communication and transparency would be welcomed by all.

In short, I guess I’m lamenting a bit what used to be, and hoping for a return to what GolfWRX used to be for me and for others I’ve spoken with.

@Schnee

When I click on a post participated in in sends me to the first one I haven't read. As far as the rest of what you wrote, I'm one of those who left for a while due to the aggravation of the changes, migration of my "old buddies", and the more prevalent hit & run/Twitter mentality.

But, I came back. There are still some good folks on here and the others seem to be weeded out soon enough. As far as the website, I can't honestly say what I coulda/woulda done to make it any better. Richard and co. know they have issues and I sincerely believe they are doing their best to make it better, and it is getting better albeit in painfully incremental stages.

I've always enjoyed your posts and your swing journey over the past few years. Hope to see you back sooner than later.

Todd

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

You are one of the many conspicuous by their absence (and missed!!) and no doubt a lot of positive contributors like yourself have been lost either for a bit or for good and completely understandable. Luckily a lot of the changes really didn't affect the way I enjoy the site, BST seems to have been a saga of its own, as I'm guessing the prime example of where things went off the rails.

So come back more often!!!!!

@Schnee “Anyone else’s page shoot to the bottom when loading a thread you’ve started to read already?”
I browse WRX almost exclusively on iPad. On threads I’ve read before (including My Bookmarks and Posts Participated In) I used to be able to click on a bolded thread title (i.e., threads with unread posts) and automatically go to the first unread post. Now, it’s either bottom of the last page (not last post, but actual bottom of the last page of the thread) or first post in the whole thread.

Edit: and the fact that you still can’t select just a portion of a post to quote is ridiculous.

It’s not easy or trivial, but certainly possible.Multiple quotes require a space between the two so you can type specific responses.

At first, I thought you were complaining about the content of the posts being silly. I’d possibly agree with that Lol.

I consider this silly.
