Aldila NVS

Recommended Posts

This is the first time I've owned an Aldila shaft . I think it's very responsive. It doesn't feel like a board (and I'm playing an X flex in my driver). It does seem less tip stiff than the green NV which I always felt played too stiff. I think it's a nice affordable shaft that will yield very good results.

I believe the specs are as follows:

NVS 65 3.6 mid 67

75 3.2 mid 75

85 2.8 mid 86

Nike Vr Pro Limited 8* w/Matrix Black Tie 6m3
Nike Vr Pro Limited 15* w/Matrix Black Tie 7m3
Nike Vr TW Blades w/TT X100
Nike Vr Pro 54/58 w/S400
Nike Method Matter B1-07

Definitely a softer feel than the NV. I put one in a TM R5 not long ago and it made a huge difference. I can feel the club head. It's probably not for the faster swinger, however. They may see the ball headed high and possibly left. But I really like the fact that it provides greater feel at impact. And, as stated, there are varing weights, etc.

I tried this shaft in my Sonartec 4 wood. I was told that it was supposed to provide a higher launch angle which is why I tried it. I am a pretty good stick (3hcp), but I didn't think the shaft provided a higher launch than the NV shaft. I went back to the stock Penley Graphite Light shaft. I find it interesting that my swing likes a $20 shaft more than an $80 shaft. I guess that is why they make so many different ones... There is a perfect shaft for everyone. I guess mine is just the cheap ones :vava:

I have found this to be a very crisp and snappy shaft -- responsive and definitely not boardy. Not for aggressive swingers, I'd say, but if you have a smooth tempo it will accommodate you nicely if you choose the right flex... even if you have a higher swing speed.

Makes a particularly nice match with the Sonartec MD hybrid.

Ya know I was really surprised to see Hank Kuehne using one of these. I watched him for an entire round and he had a pretty high but not overly high ball flight that was much more boring than ballooning. I had watched him play several times, back when he had a Speeder 757, Penley ETA and now the NVS. The ball flight looked the pretty much the same, but not as long as before. When he had the ETA he was KILLING IT!!! I also found that he holds back on a lot of drives. The first couple of drives I first saw him hit several years ago I was not impressed at all at his length. Then he let a couple rip, perfectly in balance though, and it was like oh my god what the fudge was that!!?? So he may have been leaving some in the reserve when I watched him hit the NVS.

I actually hated the NV-65 Proto shaft (with the TM graphics), but found the stiff flex NVS-75 gold/orange shaft pretty darned good. It felt quite responsive and accurate to me when I tried it in a 9.5* R540XD TP Tour.

I have an NV in my four wood and really like it and recently tried a Callaway Fusion three wood with this shaft and expecting similarly good results. And I wasn't dissapointed. Lovely smooth shaft, nice mid-high launch and great for those with a nice fluent action. Really liked this one. I would reccomend it highly.

one of my favorite shafts. i've tried hundreds of shafts, and i just don't understand everyone's fascination with $40000000 shafts lke fujikura. the ONE fuji shaft i like is the bonzai, actually. grafalloy shafts OWN. and so does the nvs. what i love is you can go heavier without feeling like the club is becoming a lot more stiff. a marvelous shaft. my second or third choice.

Yesterday I spent the whole afternoon on a launch monitor picking a new driver. I tried everything they had and each in different lofts and with different shafts and flexes. I ended up with one driver far beyond the rest of the "pack". That was a new Ping Rapture 9* with a stiff Aldila NVS 65.

This shaft is the most perfect shaft I've found "for my swing". My swing is 95-105 mph ss, 155-165 mph ball speed, 14-15* launch angle (with this combo) and 250-270 yards carry distance. I have a short backswing so "load" the shaft very hard on the downswing (the salesman said similar to Nick Price?) so I HAVE to hit a stiff even though I'm borderline reg/stiff.

I've never hit a driver this far. The NVS 65 works fine for hard swingers.

I don't have camera that can take swing vids but I make almost perfect ball contact on the sweet spot every time because I have this short backswing I mentioned above. I went to this shorter (3/4?) backswing years ago and increased my distance big time. (My pro says I have a nice swing). I think the 165 ball speed was the highest and norm was probably 155-160. The 105 ss was calculated off of one of those ball speed numbers (monitor did not display ss, only ball speed) and I'm not sure which. So all I can say for sure is I'm always in that optimum launch angle and my carry was always 150-170 straight down the middle. And that is about exactly what I'm getting on the course.

I have the NVS 95 X in my three wood.

Reasons why I choose the shaft was because my previous shaft for my 3W was the Aldila HM 40 tour gold 95 X this shaft had a mid bend point. The NVS also has a mid bend point. Loved the performace of the HM 40 but the shaft felt too whippy after I had the NV in my hybrids. My 3W is a 13 degree so I was scared to go with a tip stiff shaft like the NV, but wanted the feel of the NV. So I went with the marketing hype and other reviews and got the NVS. I did have the shaft tipped 1.25".

My driver swing speed is 116 -120. If you have a fast hard swing then this is not the shaft for you. Balloning is all I can say. The control is there, but the ball flight is a big step backwards. Love the 3W head, so I am going to keep it. My next step will be to go with the VS. Hopefully that will bring down the ball flight, and reduce spin. I was thinking about going with the VS in the first place instead of the NVS, but wanted to try and save some money. First impressions are often right. The search goes on for the right shaft.

Do not get me wrong this is a nice feeling shaft, but for my swing it is not right.

I love this shaft! Just got one to replace my stock Fuji on my TaylorMade r7 460. Got it in regular flex 75g weight. I have a pretty slow swing speed, and I have been hitting some bombs with this thing. I have played 3 rounds with it, and have had several drives close to 300 yards. It plays a little stiffer than my stock regular flex, and has a nice high ball flight. Great feel. I would highly recommend this shaft for slower to mid swing speed players, particularly those who tend to have a lower launch.

I have the nvs 75s in my superquad tp and i works great for me
my swing speed is around 100 98-102
i had it pured before it was installed
i have extra weight in the head 4grams
and a jumbo grip
the whole combo comes out at d4 s weight

i tried the same shaft in wilson 5 wood and it doesnt work at all no way to weight the head
so may be that throws the whole thing off for me

i am sticking with the accras in tm vsteels fairways for now

Have a NVS 65-S in a Sonartec 13 degree NP-99 (minus 1 inch). Crisp feel, good feedback and reliable/workable. It is also the longest 3 wood I have ever hit, regardless of shaft/head combo. I could probably go with an xstiff (which I have in my NP-99 19 degree 5 wood), but like that when I jump on it now the worst I'll get is a predictable push/fade that eliminates the left side. Driver SS is 106-110 with a pretty short / aggressive action. Good shaft in this club for me.

Tried the NVS in 65 gram regular flex in a driver and 75 gram stiff flex in a 3 wood and they are two different animals. The 65 gram regular in a driver tended to fly to high for me, and would balloon when I hit into the wind; the 75 gram stiff in a 3 wood was perfect trajectory for me (mid boring ball flight), very controllable and long. Would recommend the 75 gram stiff for anyone with a 95 mph ss and a medium tempo.

I just put a NVS 85gram X flex tipped 1/2" into my driver. I must say that I like this setup a lot. I got a great deal on ebay for the shaft $30. I was a little concerned about it's playability from all of the reviews, but after hitting a bag of balls and playing 18 holes I am very satisfied. It is very stiff, but doesn't play like a board. It still has plenty of kick to get the ball up in the air. I wonder what it would be on a launch monitor. It might have a little to much spin, but I feel very confident with it and so far have been hitting it straight.

Warbirdlover,

I would encourage you to add the NVS X to your driver. I added the 85gram NVS X and I love it. It is really long, doesn't balloon and feels great. I want to add one to my 3 wood. Just wanted to let you know. I got mine at Aldilacloseouts.com

Combined an nvs 75 stiff with an r7 425 and have not liked it very much(about 2 weeks). Was playing the stock reax 65 and had liked it, but was looking for a way to get a higher ball flight for the always wet spring here in Iowa. The shaft actually feels very whippy compared to a $16 True Ace component shaft I installed.

Ball flight has not changed, but my swing has become pretty over the top the last time I was at the range so I'm gonna give it another week or two and then review again.

Edit* 4 days and 3 range sessions later and I'm slightly disappointed with my shaft selection. I should've gone with the original NV. The NVS just doesn't seem firm enough for my swing. Do not buy this shaft if you have an aggressive swing like mine, because it does not work well. Swing smooth and hit it square you'll lose roll, but plays well in wet conditions.

ill bring this back from the dead with a current review of this shaft. i bought it on eBay (NVS 85-S) for a steal considering it was a 1 time pull and a brand new Golf Pride Full Cord grip was just installed. Anywho, i put it on my Titleist 906F2 and my first hit was a laser!! Dead straight down the range, 2nd was even with the first. I couldnt tell how far i hit it but this thing is bombing now! Ive played 3 rounds with it and have only had one bad hit but ended up a little better than my normal miss hits which was still down the fairway. i have more confidence clearing water on those long par 5, 2nd shot. Love the burnt orange, i might re-grip with the GP New Decade Multi-Compound Orange grip if it matches?

I played this shaft several times, but never stuck to it (it was the clubhead and not the shaft's fault). Recently I picked up a few of these for a bargain, and after some adjustment I'm back in love with the Envious. It's smooth and makes me swing the club and not hit it. I won't compare it to high end models, but it's a good upgrade from stock shafts. A few years ago I paid $80 for one, but now the price has lowered ($25-45). If you're not ready to pay the big bucks for a premium shaft, the NVS is an acceptable alternative.
