Older club fun

I found a TM R9 Max driver and Rife 2 bar putter(remember them?) on my route yesterday and thought I would have a bit of fun trying them out today. Well what started out as fun turned into I may have found 2 competent back-ups!!The driver is the one that has the removeable weight in the rear just the single one.It has a TP(oh boy tour preferred) Motore F1 60J stiff shaft in it and is 9.5.I had a Jumbomax med I put on it and then had some rear weights so I can get the SW to D3 which is perfect.Man I don't know why but I was killing it and squaring it up too right around center spot. I didn't care how forgiving it was all over the face cause it was fine in the middle of the face. It may be new car smell but just looking down at it just felt like I was with an old friend. Real comfortable.Solid sounding too. I am playing a Ping g410 and mizzy st200 and this thing could make them both stay in the closet. I am plaing tomorrow on course I know so will be interesting to see how this club stacks up.

The 2 bar Rife was the ugy light blue color with double bend shaft so I put on a big grip I had and I swear I was rolling the S@#* out of it. It had such nice weight and sets up so well I was putting from all over the practice green and what didn't go in just was short or wide but not enough to 3 putt. Anyone else go back and try a blast or two from the past? How did it go for you? CAnt wait for the round tomorrow.

I tried the Sasquatch nike driver that everyone seemed to have back in the day and hit it fantastic, was a blast!

I found an old Nike VR Pro Str8-Fit driver a while back. I had one back in the day until the face cracked. It was refreshing to hit it again, and it’ll remain as my backup for a while.

I find myself playing mostly vintage clubs these days. Persimmon woods and blade irons from the '80s, wedges and putter from the '50s and '60s.

Plenty of great equipment from the last 15 years is available. Bargains are to be found if you know what to look for. The Taylormade advertisements would have you believe anything older than 12-18 months is obsolete and costing you performance.

My drivers are the oldest clubs. All have had shaft changes except one. I just can't justify $400. for only one club, and I still like these.

very few of my clubs are new. The newest ones in my bag are the wedges my dad got from warrior custom golf many years ago but he never hit them. I'm so cheap when it comes to myself I can't really justify spending the money on new equipment. Thanks to the magic of the internet I'm seriously considering buying some off brand clubs, but I also have the mental block of not being able to test the clubs before I buy them.

A lot of guys like retro golfer and myself play vintage all the time. Since I am retired I have been playing all week and playing all vintage. I have so much vintage stuff I have been switching off daily. And I am having a blast.
