Moving to Scottsdale

Good Afternoon to All and greetings from the Frozen Tundra of Minneapolis. I've had enough. 26 years is QUITE enough Winter. I don't snowboard anymore and I'm done with -30* mornings. I think I can handle one more of these beyotches, but next Holiday season I'm packing up and heading to the South West. I've spent enough tome in Scottsdale to realize I love the desert. I'm not worried about finding work, friends or entertainment.....but I do worry about finding a place to play. Here in the Minny I'm an Associate (Junior) Member at a Championship Golf Club (You have a 50/50 shot at guessing) and it's a fantastic deal for the quality of golf.

5K down stroke and dues around 275/mo + 50 Food/Bev Min (Year Round). I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to find anything like that in The Valley. For those of you who reside in the area or have spent time in AZ, do you have any thoughts on what I should do? Are there any "younger" semi/private clubs that are affordable for a guy like me? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Good luck on the move, I used to live up north and being stuck inside for 5 months straight can drive you insane, I live in florida now and its in the 80s out today and can play golf everyday of my life. enjoy.

I feel your pain. I'm one of few native boys from Biwabik (home of two great courses...Giant's Ridge's The Legend and The Quarry). Can't take the weather, but couldn't find a job in Scottsdale! KC has been a big improvement.

lived in tucson for 4 years and it would hit 115 for 30+ days every summer but phoenix is warmer

Scottsdale is a neat area. I played @ the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort course (Lookout Mountain), fun course great scenery. Lots of Rocks and Cacti. There is a restaurnt called a different pointe of view on top of the mountain, best food i have ever eaten. Chef by the name of Ivan Flowers.

Nice in the winter, HOT in the summer.....Really hot on the golf course. So be careful what you wish for. But then again there are worse places to live than Scottsdale that is for sure. Nice place, getting really developed and there is a ton of golf out there. My brother in law lives in Chandler and he has one of the nicest houses I have ever seen for 700K. That would be a 3/2, Condo, or Townhouse in certain parts of Cali.

There are not many Minnesota type deals on memberships at clubs...but there are plenty of good local deals for the summer rates. Winter will be expensive unless you are a member at a golf club, as there are many tracks out there that are 100+ K to join....similar to FLA.

From what I've seen, private golf is a rich man's game in the Phoenix area.

The small, private club model popular in the midwest with reasonable initiation and monthly dues is rare if not just non-existant.

Many public courses do offer "memberships" so to speak, with preferred tee times etc., but that's not really the private club experience as I see it.

Good news is, there is plenty of reasonably priced public golf!
