SIM driver guys - talk about it

It really is amazing how different people hit the same clubs. I wasn’t even looking for a driver with the G400 Max in the main bag and M4 as backup.

Hit a friend’s Sim Max just for fun to see what the hype was about and it was for real. In terms of forgiveness (IMO), the TMSM with twist face has been even better than the G400. Sound and feel is miles better (again IMO).

I got one in the bag, 2 rounds into relationship, but is changing game! 9* opened up and -2 loft. Weight 7/8's of the way to Fade with a Tensei Pro White TX.....20 yards more over my PXG Gen 1 0811x

My miss is a hook, this is still in play and much further down the course than usual.

Coming into this thread late. I was lucky enough to be one of the people who went to the kingdom earlier this year to get fit for the Sim Products. All of them have been a game changer for me but the driver most of all. Im in a SIm 10.5 degree head with a graphite design AD IZ 7X. I hit down on the ball quite a bit so ive never gotten the distance out of my swing speed. Last year i was playing a Srixon Z785 with a HZRDUS black shaft averaging around 250 off the tee and hitting only 37% of fairways. This year im Averaging 270 off the tee and hitting 56% of fairways. This driver is just so good. Even my misses are minimal whereas in the past i would lose one or two off the planet right every round. I pretty much just step up to every tee and take a big cut at it knowing its going exactly where i want every time.

I have the Max with tour ad - its fantastic - long straight forgiving and feels amazing.

but the Stock sim with the black diamana was definitely long. Lower spinning had more roll.

I think maybe i should have went Sim head instead of max with tour ad and i would be hitting bombs. But I'm happy with my current setup.

I've got just over 12 rounds in with the SIM- not as many as I would usually have by this time of the year but oh well. Despite having another driver in the bag to compare it to(Mavrik SZ) the SIM has gotten all the play. Its been way too consistent directionally to even consider taking it out of the bag. My only complaint was that I found the spin to be extremely inconsistent. I'm not a high spin player with the driver and rarely struggle with ballooning- even into the wind. The SIM I found the variance in spin to be huge, to the point that I even had some shots ballooning DOWN wind and other shots were great with no issues. I've found myself needing to be much more conscious of how high I tee it up with the SIM than any other driver I've played.

Set up was a Taylormade HZRDUS Smoke Green 60X tipped 1/2", 10.5* turned down to 8.5* with just a touch of fade bias in the weight. Distance was good, but when I did compare it to the Mavrik, the Mavrik was a touch longer("wronger" too) with a flatter ball flight, launched about the same but didn't balloon. I finally got around to swapping tips and getting the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Green(PVD) 6.5TX into the SIM. Night and day difference. The launch angle is no lower but the down range flight is significantly flatter. Still no problem launching it as high as needed(no change in settings), but carrying farther and releasing much more.

Course conditions went from firm and fast for the past month and changed this week with a few(4+) inches of rain(and irrigation work at the course) to soft, lush and plugging. Despite the change in the course and lack of roll, distances were barely penalized because of the improved carry numbers.

I haven't played a Taylormade Driver in years and I am loving this one!!!!

Seem to have found a case of the hooks with my 10.5 Sim regular. I know it's me, but after hitting it so well early in the season I haven't wanted to tinker with it from the stock setting it's been at all year. Might give it a click down and move the sliding weight to the toe a touch. Aside from that it's still an amazing driver, still very happy.

Getting better handling my quirky my Sim Max but its still all but forgiving. It´s such a tragedy that you can never go for it. Just about without exception that leads to big slices no matter how I do everything I can to swing inside out trying to hook it. Swinging smooth and slower reduces the spin and turn it to a big fade or once in a while a straight arrow! and since it´s always want to go right you can compensate a bit but I hate those trajectories. It looks horrible and robs me of so much distance. But yeah slow focusing on hitting the sweetspot rather then use the main idea with modern drivers bigger sweetspot and flush it seem the way to go. My old cleveland launcher is more forgiving and it has a 330 cc clubhead and with that one it liked you actually going for it. If I could find a way to deloft it I wonder if it´s not longer too despite being a 15 year old design.

Would love to play with a shorter shaft and see what happens. If it make it easier to direct the club instead of now getting stuck due to inertia generator. It does feel like it kind of locks the driver motion in the downswing and don´t let you adjust the swing if that path is not the optimal for your swing.

Same here, surprised at how well the diamana performed and was very consistent.

Wow 9* launch? How's your tee height? I'm having to tee SIM-TASTIC up quite a bit but gotten use to it...... I'm not long but accurate......the thing I've seen is a very dependable flight/trajectory with the higher tee......soft little baby draw......10.5* with weight towards toe.......45" atmos tour spec red 6r that was tipped for a 3wd! Extension put in by my club guy. ...hey, whatever works

There is likely something else at play that you are interpreting as "forgiveness" because not only is your 330cc not anywhere near as "forgiving" from a technical standpoint, but a lack of forgiveness does not cause slices. You likely just have a significant setup difference between the two driver; either weight, length, or a combination of both. Figure that out and get your SIM Max setup properly and you'll be able to go after it as hard as your Cleveland.

If that were true, then you'd be right, but it isn't. With everything else being equal, specifically swing and club path, a driver would need to have a higher measured MOI to produce straighter shots across the face, and a 330cc driver is going to have a VERY low MOI compared to something like the SIM Max. The Cleveland also likely had a substantially higher CG, which would mean more spin on average which would help with mishits. But i'd be willing to bet anything that your delivery is suffering due to a setup issue, and that your Cleveland is both shorter and heavier than the SIM Max, which is leading you to conflate a more comfortable driver with a more forgiving one. Please measure if you can to confirm.

Has anybody measured the face angle of a std setting SIM? I've set mine to the "higher" setting and it's basically the only way I can hit it with a small cut. In the std setting I cut the ball way too much... And I don't hit big cuts with any of my other clubs, even my SIM Ti 5w in std setting is a very small draw.

There's a small chance it's because my shaft's tip is a little too soft for my swing (gigiddy) but I don't think that's the case. I do tend to over cut shafts where the tip section is too soft.

I'm experiencing the same thing with my SIM 8*. It's a bomber's head but if i don't put my absolute est swing on it the ball starts straight and tails off right more than I would like. If anyone's found a fix that would be great. Very hesitant to add loft to the face.

I added loft but I don't find it to balloon at all. Still, I feel like I even have to work pretty hard to get a small cut ball, and if I get lazy it would probably be bad news on the course. I still need to test it more in this new setting but if it's not reliably straight like the 5w is, I probably am just going to sell it and use the 5w off the tee for the rest of the year.
