Best ball in windy conditions?

I normally play the Srixon XV and am a high launch/high spin player at a 4 handicap. Have had good success with the Srixon but recently got fitted into new irons (Cobra King Forged CB). Not sure if the irons make that big a difference but I noticed the balls not performing as well especially in windy conditions. Should I look into a lower launching/lower spinning ball? Also, in your experience what ball/s do you find the most success with in windy conditions?

I recently picked up a sleeve of the 2020 Chrome Soft and have been pleasantly surprised by how well it has played in the wind. I still launch it high but don't get ballooning and it is better in the wind than the ERC Soft and 2nd gen CS I had been playing. I am sure there are other balls that play as well; I just haven't tried them.

Have you tried the 2020 Chrome soft against the Chrome Soft x by chance?

Obviously, the 2020 X isn't out yet and I only played a couple of times with last year's X after it came out with the Triple Track. My recollection is that the X was lower launching giving it good performance into the wind, but being lower launch it didn't take advantage of downwind. The 2020 Chrome Soft seems to be giving me the best of both worlds. Also, I wasn't real enamored with the firmer feel of the X. The 2020 Chrome Soft is a little firmer than the 2nd gen Chrome Soft but more than acceptable to me in regard to soft feel.

I'm kind of a hack and this is pretty anecdotal, but before the shut down I was getting some great piercing shots into the wind with my new-to-me Snell MTB Blacks.

I was bought into the hype and purchased a couple dozen. I was able to try them out for a 9 and they were impressive. My only gripe with them is that they launched a bit too high for me with driver and especially wedges. I don't often take full shots with wedges so the higher launch made it harder for me to control. Overall a very solid ball though

The new Tour BX is amazing in the texas wind and the TP5x is a beast as well in the wind due to very low spin.

Titleist AVX is the best wind ball I have played recently.

The pros under contract have all said the TP5x ball was very stable in the wind.

I would think most lower spinning balls would perform fairly well.

MTB-X is great, but feels firm as well.

TP5x was remarkably stable for me, too. I was gifted a sleeve and played them in Scotland and it was obvious.

MTB-X is quite the opposite of a wind ball. its the most spinning ball I ever tried in my life (talking, 30 feet of backspin with short irons at times) and shortest ball with the driver here in texas when going into the wind. Might work on non wind conditions but horrible for windy places.

I feel like the Bridgestone balls with dimple-in-a-dimple construction have been excellent in the wind.

I just switched from the Srixon XV over to Titleist Pro V1x for this very reason (Srixon XV would occasionally balloon on me). I couldn't be happier with the switch. The Pro V1x seem to have a piercing flight when hit into the wind.

I really like the Taylormade TP5x performance in the wind...very stable & penetrating ball flight.

I've never gotten along well with Callaway balls. The Chrome Soft, while amazing around the greens, spin too much off the driver and irons for me. Looks like the TP5x and ProV1x will be competing amongst each other.

Real sleepers is this aspect are the Wilson Professional and FGTour balls, depending on the temp, Pro for chilly , FG for warm. Currently testing the STAFF ball as well - Same, but a firm feel/sound.

I play the Z-Star for fact I found it best in wind. Messed the the XV the last few generations of the ball. The Regular Z-Star always comes out as winner in my testing. Flight is high to get good peak hight and decent angles to stop but never so much it gets controlled by wind. And the soft feel and sound on and around the green is top notch.

Even the regular TP5 is outstanding in the wind. I remember when I first started playing them I’d set up for a shot to account for the wind like I normally would and the wind just didn’t affect it in the same manner leaving me in some bad places. Took me a little while to adjust and trust it but eventually I did.

Also my usual playing partner used to play B330S and he likes to shape shots. He ran out of them and started using V1X and I’m not joking it basically cut his shot shape in half.

Played 18 today in Central Ohio with windy conditions. 15 mph average, 30 mph gusts.

 

Played Snell MTB-X on the front 9 vs Mizuno RB Tour on the back.

Noticed slightly more stability with the Mizuno than Snell during strong side winds. When into a headwind, RB produced a piercing trajectory while the Snell would occasionally balloon. On the flip side, downwind the Snell seemed to go flat sometimes while the Mizuno seemed to ride the wind.

ive tested 5 premium balls in the last few weeks on windy days. Worst performing in the wind are Srixon XV and Chromesoft. These two ballooned like crazy. Average performing balls are TP5x, Snell MTB black. These both held up for the most part. Directly into a stiff wind they ballooned a bit but overall did well in 1-2 club wind. Best performing of the bunch was the ProV1x. Had a nice penetrating flight and ballooning was at a minimum, even into a stiff wind. Hate that this was the best performing because they’re also the most expensive lol it seems like this will be my ball this season. Time to stock up!

I’d be interested to hear more opinions, I played in the wind the other day with a ProV1 and it was killing me trying to hit into it.
