Set PW at 46, Set GW at 51... what specialty wedges do you get?

Another element that is hardly ever mentioned is swingweight and club head weight.

It's very personal but for me, I much prefer a specialty wedge (meaning beyond a gap wedge) with a heavy head - if I can't feel the head I can't get the manipulation that I want with specialty shots.

Most specialty wedges are too light for my taste.

I have a 44 deg P wedge with my Srixon Z565 set (D2 swingweight). I then go to a Cleveland CBX 50/11 gap wedge which I have added lead tape to bring it up one swingweight to D4. It's fine as a full shot club and I gap 15 yards to my PW (which is ok - just) but the face is too firey and head too light for my taste for partial shots.

Then I have 2 other wedges currently in my bag (I have quite a few others that I may swap in depending on a bunch of factors): an RTX3 56/14 which I intend to bend strong to 54/12 to gap better plus I don't need 14 deg bounce for this club, which is my main greenside bunker club. Swingweight D5, I can open the face and cut it up quite nicely if needed and don't need 14 deg bounce for this. I know there is little love for the RTX3 on here but I like it, even it's clicky feel. Then I have a few choices for my last wedge and often play a Tour Edge 58/14 wide sole club, not as a bunker club (supposedly what it's designed for) bur rather as a heavy-headed rough escaper, also an excellent chunk-proof chipper (I am a crap chipper and this works for me really well). Swingweight is D8, love the heavy head. I have a 60/8 deg lob wedge which occasionally sees duty, too

To me it's all about the carry distance with each wedge. If the PXG GW @ 51* goes the same carry distance as your Vokey 50, that's ok and then it becomes about look and feel. I like the 4 wedge system with my PW @ 46*, GW's 50* & 54*, LW @ 60*. Bottom line is that it comes down to testing and carry distance with each wedge.

Depends on how you play and what the courses are like. I'm a long hitter and do pretty well with long irons so i emphasize on the top end of my bag by running 52/58. Opening a can of worms with asking people about their preferences on wedges/gap. i run a 46mid rtx3, 52mid/58low rtx4. I have limited time to practice so i go with 52/58 instead of 52/56/60. But that is to say when practicing i would be playing 52mid full shots/cuts/opening the face up/front foot@back foot ball, 58low the same shots except my full shots are cuts but mainly because they are mainly flop shots or i need to stop the ball. Quicker to familiarize yourself with the club, spin and distance with 2 clubs playing different shots than 3clubs. RTX3 46 mainly for full shots and pitching the V sole in the rtx3 is problematic it gets in the way when you open the face and you end up thinning it.

When i have the time i always practice with a rtx3 64 and only do square full shots run 52/58/64, 64 comes in handy in winter for bunker play when your out of touch and need to get out of sand that is wet and compact and can't get under it full cut shot square on no issues.

58rtx4 with the low grind is such a great club good for pinching the ball out of a tight lie.

52 rtx4 . mid grind so favors full shots and as well as opening the face up and using it over the 58 on first cut etc.

hi-toe wedges if you are never going to do a full swing with a LW. they are user friendly and the weight of the head leads one to get accustom of.

go get fitted for what grinds your swing favors and what you feel is right and how you play the course(where you attack the hole and what your second shot is and what your deadzone is)
