Ping postponing 2020 Releases

Recommended Posts

Congrats on the baby! Being a Dad is the best job ever!

I just turned 50 and feel every bit of it! LOL SS is in the mid to high 80's, but it might be going the other way! I try to get out at least once a week either with a neighbor or my son, but it's tough because of real life.

The IE1 irons were great if you had the game for them back in the day. They weren't the most forgiving, but more so than the S series for obvious reasons. It wanted to add more forgiveness, so if you're a better player, they probably worked well. But the long irons could have been more forgiving. All that said, we're starting to see a trend in our shop that good players who aren't playing nearly as much are going the more forgiving route. You're going, in my view, uber-Forgiving and I'm actually doing the same thing. I'm past trying to impress my buddies and looking to post a score and have the clubs really help me.

Feel is subjective and if the 710s feel better to you, then they do. I liked them better, but was happy with the 410s also. But there were some shots where I kept thinking, the 710 would have had more real estate and produce more ball speed to keep that shot on line more. They fly farther and will bail you out on bad shots (not REALLY bad shots), over and over again. We're seeing more and more people going more forgiving, better players included simply because they don't want the pressure of having to be on their game all the time and time is growing shorter due to life. They're in the what I call, "want to have fun crowd." They know they can play a players iron, but don't. Our owner is one of those guys. He's been playing since he was four, and is a Titleist staffer. He probably SHOULD be playing blades, but plays the T100s. To him, that's game improvement.

So while you probably could play the 410s well, the 710s will be WAY easier to use. But there will be an adjustment period because it will be a light year's jump in technology, forgiveness and the much larger sole. I think you'll really like them once you adjust.

Probably has a lot to do with it being named best driver of 2020 by the site that shall not be named.

Do you know what all Mizuno sales?!? There not just a golf company....matter a fact golf is the smallest thing they do produce/sale. I would beg to say it only 15-20% of there market. Think of all the softball/baseball stuff-bats, gloves, shoes I could go on. They would be the last one to hold any product for 2020.

Any idea if they are reopening May 1 and if they are releasing Heppler line this spring? I preordered a Heppler but haven't heard anything.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see this move from most manufacturers. All of the investment made in marketing would be a moot point if people can't or won't get out and play in addition to the fact that stores may not see the same foot traffic. Giving it time to see how things level out is a smart play.

I think you have called that one dead on. My club which is a small club and depends on tourism in addition to us members has already starting some inventory blow out sales to boost cash flow. What really hurt the make up of our club is the bar and grill room being closed and the snowbirds going back early. I did a heck of a blow out deal last week ( cash) on some Call Away Supersoft balls. I like those balls anyhow and I wanted to help my club out.

They are opening on May 1st, but not at 100% capacity. They haven't said in what ways or areas that they will still be limited or any time frame on existing and new orders.

I'm obviously a Titleist guy but I was looking forward to both them and Ping's new drivers. TS3 and G410 LST are great drivers, sure, but I'd like something newer. Looks like I'll have to wait another year.

That did not happen. Karsten Manufacturing / the Solheim family still own Dolphin. In fact Dolphin was recently invested with a brand new facility.

I'll tell you what's holding strong (relatively speaking of course), the G25 irons. I've been looking for a used set in my specs and they're still going for more than everything outside of the i200/210, G400/410, G700/710. I've been looking for a 3-pw set which is tough to find let alone in the specific specs/shaft you want. They're still in the mid $300-$500+ range for 4/5-pw/gw. I'm thinking of just going after the 410s or 710s for a bit more.

Sad that we'll see a lot of this. If you have an old golf magazine, just open it up and see ads from last year or something. Then you'll feel like you have the latest gear.

The really odd thing is that I finally received a reply from customer service today on my inquiry about the ZB3 in that line. They claimed it was released in January!

So we shall see what happens when my pro orders it. I will keep you posted.

PING posted on FB that they were open with a "team" which means probably limited staff. I imagine they'll have to catch up. But it might be time to get a Multicam bag!
