T100-S vs T100.....

ZA206

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any real info on the changes Titleist made to the T100 that turn them into the T100-S? I know they are 2 deg stronger lofted, but did they really do anything with the CG placements/tungsten or anything to make them a little less "spinny"? I'm hoping they dropped the CG's in them to kill some spin to go with the stronger lofts so that they act more like P790's (still launch high, just alot less spin).

The reason I'm interested is that I sold my 718 AP2's b/c they were too spinny and I had some gapping issues at the top of my irons (last iron is a 5, and in the AP2 it would go 185 yards or so). My gap is at 200 yards.... my 4H goes 215 yards and I don't like hitting "soft" shots with 4H, because I don't hit the ball worth a crap when I try it. I'm currently playing JPX 919F and that 5 iron goes 190-195... so I've almost closed the gap. I'm not sure I like the turf interaction/soles on the JPX 919F irons though. I'm used to much smaller soles that cut through the turf better.

Anyone know anything or have been able to compare the T100 and T100-S on the course???

-ZA,

I am curious as well. I had a fitting set up for last week, and the T100-S was on the short list to try. Unfortunately golf in my state, including driving ranges and fitting studios was shut down. Thanks for asking the question, and I will be interested to hear.

I took the T100S’ s out for a round early this year to compare against my T100. I decided to stick with my 100’s , I have found the higher I can hit my irons the better off I am. From the address position, the lofts just didn’t look right to me, they are noticeably stronger looking, even though it’s only 2 degrees. I found myself second guessing yardages all day, not really trusting what distance they would go. I suppose eventually you would get used to them, 1 round probably isn’t enough time to make a final decision, but it convinced me to stick with my 100’s and I’m happy I did. I could see maybe a combo set for your longer irons, but didn’t like the shorter irons in the 100S.

What shafts were you playing in your AP2s? I see you have X100s and I always had spin issues with those in AP2s.

The CG is essentially the same on both and it’s actually quite low for this category of iron being under .800. I think a lot of golfers tend to catch it ever so slightly heavy and that’s why clubs like the T100(AP2) and Ping i210 tend to give higher spin numbers due to their high bounce. It safeguards you and keeps the strike location from climbing up the face. Simply lowering CG does not necessarily equate to lower spin.

I hit both T100 and T100-S with the same shafts and honestly couldn’t tell a difference, the S went a little further obviously but it was still super high. I figure it was about 1 club different and just more comparable to the other stronger lofted offerings. I can’t wrap my brain around the T200 PW at 43*, something other brands have done is keep shorter irons more traditional. P790 for example really has a gap around the 7 iron on up, where those clubs flat out go further relative to the shorter irons. Titleist seems to be pushing there gap towards the wedges, which makes sense when you own Vokey. The short answer to your question is the CG, to me, was obviously tweaked as stated since they launched so easy.

I think i recall reading they are essentially the same (obviously with the exception of lofts) but they have adjusted the leading edge and bounce so that they wouldnt be impacted the same way bending the regular 100's would be if you bent them 2 strong.

Basically, it looks like they are identical clubs if bent to the same lofts.... the only difference is the offset changes if you bend one weak vs. bending one strong.

Watched the TXG youtube video last night and I think they did a really good job explaining these. I'm a bit steep and play T100 bent 1 deg strong (I'm a high launch and spin player) which removes some bounce so I'm quite curious if T100s might work better bent 1 degree weak. I like the distances that I get with my current T100 so thinking a bit less bounce with the S bent 1 weak could do me some good. Just not sure it's worth the money to go out and switch but it definitely has me thinking about testing it.

They are more toe weighted so they ended having more toe droop at impact, i.e. effective lie was slightly flatter.

I'm looking at doing the exact same thing. I was watching an earlier TXG video where Ian was Matt for new irons, and one of the clubs he hit was T100s bent two weak. Matt said the lack of offset was noticeable.

I watched the TXG episode last night - an interesting part was when they made the lofts the same (S -1, Regular +1) at 29 degrees. Matt hit a noticeably more consistent ball with the S bent 1 weak.

I'm jonesing for new irons as I have the 712 APs...frikin 7i shaft broke in my waggle, WTF?! However, I like to carry 3 and/or 4i so how do I wedge gap with these being so strong? I know, I know...go get fit. I will but with C19 lockdown it's tough and the fitting sessions may be limited. I am looking for any success stories here to build info before, when, if I go get fit.....Thanks

In the market there are several clubs that look a little more player like with hollow, low spinning, heads and strong lofts to get some juiced results. And let's be honest, it get's people to buy clubs. I think the T100s is trying to give people a similar distance option in a less ridiculous performing and looking package compared to some of those others.

You have to be fit for these things because not everyone will benefit or prefer the performance. I found the T100 performed very very well, and the T100s didn't give me anything I needed. In fact, on a launch monitor, I think the T100s performed slightly worse when it came to launch angle, and the Titleist fitter didn't like that club for me based on the numbers he saw.

The T100 is an excellent players club with consistent distances, very playable lofts that eliminate gaps between clubs, and excellent turf interaction. They look great at address, and I think they feel really good as well.

I may be in the minority but I never really loved the AP2 irons. I think the T100 irons look and feel better, and perform very well.

I’m surprised I’m not finding a clear concrete answer on these, but is the t100 line intended to compete with like the Callaway’s apex pro, Mizuno mp20sc, taylormade 770, srixon 785,pxg 0311t?

Do I have the right “category”

Um, close. They are a rebranded ap2. Id say more comparable to jpx forged, srixon 585. They kinda walk that fine line between Players cavity and game improvement.

Your right -- those are the competitors.  Maybe not the 770 (closer to the P7MC in my opinion), but the rest are correct.

The T100 are tiny compared to the JPX forged and 585s.

They are in fact smaller than the MP20 MMC Apex Pro 770 785s, .. (Ive owned them all)

The T100 are players clubs in every sense of the word

They are awesome
