Allison Krause, when she sings When You Say Nothing at All.

Lotta good ones posted on here. Some one posted this in the 60's and 70's and Imho it's some of the most beautiful harmony I have ever heard.

Karen Carpenter, Patsy Cline - so much to love and I love them, too! For me, Linda Ronstadt is "it" - her voice in her prime had incredible clarity and was unbelievable - here she is a little rough ar

Oh boy, nostalgic view of my youth! ?

My favorite my FAR female voice is Christina Aguilera when she wants to try. Absolutely amazing in every genre. For the rest, Kacey Musgraves, had a crush on her for years. Happy she's lately finally being recognized for how good she is.

Jamey Johnson, Chris Stapleton, Gary Allan, and Luke Combs for the (modern) country men. Waylon Jennings and Vern Gosdin for the (classic) country men.

David Draiman (Disturbed), Corey Taylor (Slipknot/Stone Sour), and Ivan Moody (Five Finger Death Punch) for the 'rock' side of life. I've always been fanscinated by the ones who aren't afraid to walk outside their normal range, and Corey Taylor is probably the most gifted male vocalist of the current day. Here's a relatively unknown clip of him covering CCR, acoustic. No filters, no autotune, no big speakers to mask any problems. Raw, and awesome.

Why? I personally like Riannon better. Love the song and love that time in my life. Brings back so many good memories!!!

I mean no disrespect to those who can sing like no one's business. Aretha comes to mind, Linda Ronstadt, Graham Nash, and Carrie Underwood, all of these folks have great voices. In fact, Miley Cyrus can really, really sing, but do they move me? Not so much. I do enjoy some of their music, but as much as the vocals are important, so is the music behind me. I can't think of one singer who moves me a cappella. There are voices that are truly generational, Axl Rose comes to mind, he may well (IMO) have the best hard rock voice ever unleashed on the music world, but of course he is completely unhinged. Robert Plant? Another one, from a different generation. That guy could sing the phone book with Jimmy playing back up, and I might just listen. But none of these vocalist get to my top three. I even pondered Roger Daltrey, Gwen Stefani, and Bon Scott, but nope.

Closer but still out of my top 3 are Lou Reed, Michael Stipe, and Henry Rollins.

So without further ado.

I wanted to be born on Sugar Mountain and live with my cinnamon girl, none of this came to pass, but when you think of singers who are immediately recognizable, suck you right into the message of the song and deliver, Neil is numero uno. My Cinnamon Girl and I were going to have two hearts beating as one, and it was going to be a magnificent and beautiful day. I realized shortly after my utopian dreams the streets have no names, and in fact, the whole mess never even existed. But once the edge of the song is revealed and Bono starts singing, he delivers exactly what the song demands. When my dreams were shattered I would make fun a little boy named Jeremy, it was harmless little fun, but things didn't turn out so well for him in the end. When I realized the errors of my ways I never wanted to go home, my mother asked me why I kept exclaiming, "Why go home?" Well, because Eddie Vedder told me.

Chris Stapleton & Aaron Lewis, these two guys can literally sing anything and have so much soul. My 3rd choice for his lyrical genius would be Eminem, listening to him rip puts a lot of fun and energy into things.

I cannot choose just one voice here. I am a sucker for the female voice. Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday, Mariah Carey, Sarah McLachlan, Sinead O'Connor, Tori Amos, Alanis Morrisette, Rihanna, Halsey are at the top of a long list. Probably tied at number one are the late Dolores O'Riordan from the Cranberries and Heather Nova.

I must be getting old.....

three pages into the thread and not one post has mentioned the first two I thought of. By voice alone, not really the music, I need to go with Barbra Streisand and Dean Martin. Whitney Houston a more modern version of the same to me. Simply amazing voices those three had.
