Most Underrated Ball You Ever Played?

Srixon Z-Start line and the Q-Star Tour. Both usually overlooked by people usually going for the Titleist or Callaway balls, but they're just as good and several bucks cheaper. Enjoy both but prefer the Z-Star XV as it works for my game.

My top 2..

Wilson 50 Elite. When I was getting back into golf a few years ago, these were the best budget balls I tried. Not sure about current pricing, but they were under $10/dz new.

And,

Srixon QStar Tour. This ball does everything good, not the best in any category, but overall solid. A urethane ball and can be found on sale from time to time for $20/dz.

I played the best golf of my life using the original (2006) Taylormade TP Red. I know they weren’t underrated here, but I certainly never saw anyone else I knew playing them.

Actually surprised no one mentioned Slazenger Raw Feel balls. I played these quite a lot years ago when I was much poorer than I am today. Good feel, good spin and went a mile off the driver for me. Maybe it’s not under rated, but for what I paid for them and the feel they had, I felt like I was getting a good value for my money.

Agreed... I also like the Maxfli Revolution when it came out in the late 90s... I believe it had specific instructions not to microwave it!

That U Tri Tour was one heck of a ball. I ended up with a bunch of them ( long story) Loved that ball. In fact my bud Bear found one the other day and I told him to hit it with his next 50* wedge shot. He did and was impressed. Asked where you could get them I told him in used lake balls that they have not made them in like 12 years now. Actually have one in my hall of fame made 2 HIOs on a par 3 course within 2 holes of each other one night with that same ball. Won the General Dog Fight pot plus the side skins and some other side bets. Made about $1500 that night

I admit I don't remember for sure. I played the B330 for a time after the U Tri ES, but don't remember if I went directly to it, or if took a pit stop with something else.

The Bridgestone Tour B XS (what Tiger won the Masters with). I don't know why Bridgestone doesn't get more love for their golf balls, it seems like everyone is in the shadows to Titleist because they've been on the thrown for so long. But I really believe in the technology and performance in those balls, and even other manufactures such as Callaway and Taylormade and even Srixon compared to Titleist. Does anyone else get tired of hearing the phrase "the number one ball in golf"?

I have very fond memories of the original MC Lady 20 years ago. Been a big fan of the Duo line every since it came out as well. The Duo is easily the best ball value in golf.

I tried the Bridgestone Lady a few years ago and was not overly impressed, I wanted the old MC Lady. Of course, my recollection of the old ball could easy be rose tinted and the Bridgestone Lady could end up being a very near replacement. Which makes me want to go find a new dozen of the MC Lady and remind myself how the ball actually played. I'd love to find a modern version of that ball.

I liked those too. After using them for a season I then bought another sleeve on course one day. One of the 3 was egg shaped right out of the box. This being pre-internet, I mailed the ball back to Maxfl, along with the cost of the box, packing and postage. I waited several weeks, and they sent me back.....ONE ball. You would think a sleeve of balls would be appropriate, just for my troubles. So, I switched brands after that.

In terms of underrated I think these performed beyond the price tag.

The Volvik Vibe always worked well for me (and it’s on sale for $10.95.) I always played the white, but now I’m giving the yellow a spin.

Runners up:

Titleist Velocity

Wilson Staff FG tour

Srixon Z-star

...and my friends have been making fun of me playing Pro V1x practice balls but they’ve been great.

Certainly another vote for the original Maxfli Revolution. Another one from that era is the Topflite XL 2000 Exceptional Spin. I always thought their marketing campaign should have been "Not as bad as you want it to be."

For me - the most underrated ball of all time is the RBZ Urethane. It was long, low spin off the driver, great greenside spin and cheap. When that ball was discontinued and TM "replaced" it with the project a - it was just never the same.

Now I have to say it's the AVX, that ball was built for me. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but for someone who has always struggles with too much spin, and a VERY high/ballooning ball flight - this ball has been a savior for me. I'm straighter and longer off the tee than ever before, my irons have straightened out and gained about 10 yards, and I can still hit the ball high enough and with enough spin to hold greens with every club except my 3Wood. That ball single handed dropped my handicap about 2 strokes last season - and this season is just starting out.

I would add the Oncore Avant 55. It probably won’t get much love because it’s a newer company with direct buy but an excellent 2 piece ball. Hit one 225 all carry , ground was not rolling and some even backed up . Not long for the young bucks but for these bones not bad. And the ball did well on holding greens.
