Most Underrated Ball You Ever Played?

Pinnacle exception. Idk what it was about that ball but it really seemed to perform well

I stopped playing for about 7 years and started up again over the last year.  I had a 24 pack of Pinnacle Exceptions.  Maybe a dozen or more left that I found in storage.  This was a 2010 or 2006 or so ball.

I pulled out some and tried them again.  It is a great ball.  It is like a poor man's Pro V1x.   I plan on trying the newer (2) Pinnacle models - Rush and Feel?   They are supposed to be good.

Recently bias in full effect but the Maxfli Tour is a great ball in every way.

Always one to try to be contrary ie non Titleist, I played the Nike One Black for a while.

Before that, the Maxfli Revolution.

More recently, the Wilson Staff FG Tour is a great ball the few others seem to play. Hate the x version though, feels like a brick to me. For the winter, the Duo and DX2 soft are great, I believe they may even be the same ball???

Maybe my affinity for Wilson balls stems from a course record set with a Staff Titanium Balata in 1997, propelled greenwards by Cleveland VAS+ irons !!!!

Older balls, but the old Strata Tour. Mark O'Mera won his majors with them. IMO they were better than the wound Titleist Professional that everyone played then but people didn't believe in solid core balls yet.

I also liked the NXT Tour a lot circa 2000 - 2002. At that time I was still really learning to play and got less side spin with them than I did on the Pro V1's. They were firmer, not as much short game spin, but I still had plenty of full wedge back spin.

I like Wilson balls particularly because they are so soft off the irons.   I have been playing Wilson Duo (Optix) in matte yellow.  It is a great ball.  I seem to keep it in the fairway all the time and not lose them.   I have some slightly older Wilson SmartCore which i also like.   They just bomb it off of fairway woods and like all Wilson so soft off the irons.  They had a ball about 11 years ago called the Wilson 360.  They even had a 360 Tour.  I have a regular and a Tour.  They are great golf balls.

I have found endless balls and have plenty of V1 and V1x's and all the other Titleist models which I do  not like.  V1x - I do like.   I liked the Top Flite D2 Straight which was popular about 8 years ago.  I hit my longest drive ever the other day with a Top Flite XL Distance in yellow.   Softer than I expected, long and enough spin into the green.

Wilson Staff 360 Tour. A decade or so ago I was looking for a new ball. I'd been playing the B330 and for some reason they changed the formula and it wasn't as good (for me) as the previous versions. I stocked up on the old ones but playing 200+ rounds a year I went thru them and needed more. A buddy of mine handed me a sleeve of the aforementioned Wilson Staff and smiled telling me to "just try it". I did and was really impressed with it's performance and durability. I was able to play a few dozen before they disappeared and by then T-Mag had introduced the Lethal and I've played their subsequent versions ever since.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Years ago I found a Top Flite D2 Feel and played it. Ended up buying more. Played really well. Also, years ago I was on a scramble team that set and broke our league record and I was playing the Lynx Black Cat. How about you?

Gota be the Kirkland Signature 3 piece for me. I know that people praise the 4 piece for its prov-esque performance. However, the 3 piece is comparable to the 4 piece in terms of performance. My only issue with the 3 piece is the quality control, or consistency. Once in a whole u’ll get a ball that scrapes easily, or don’t feel right.
Other than that, a solid ball at an amazing price.

Huh?

That was in response to a post whose quote I must have bungled saying they played the Nike Distance ball in the '90s. Nike marketed its first ball in '99, though of course they were all Bridgestone Precepts in those years under a different name. I don't think Nike ever manufactured any golf balls themselves.

I actually update my answer to the TM Tour Response.  It is a very, very solid ball.  I feel it's underrated as it falls in that no-mans-land of "~$35 dollar urethane".  At that price point the I feel most consumers either go to the DTC brands (as that's their "top line"), or they go with a cheaper alternative and try to get into the ~$25 range.  And those who want a "big name ball" at retail probably just pay the extra for the ~$45 balls or stock up on promos or sales.

So it's wildly overlooked.  But I got a dozen on sale for $20 and it's a great fall/winter ball were I'm not mad about losing it, but still performs similarly enough to my usual gamers.  It's long (negligible difference from PV1), spins good enough, and feels good off the putter.

Came to post on the Precept U-Tri Tour train. Maybe not underrated, just a cult classic pro level ball at a decent price.

My current choice, TaylorMade Tour Response is quite a good ball also. For the price, can't go wrong.

I'll add TaylorMade Lethal which was kind of passed over, but was a phenomenal ball.

Hogan Apex Pro? I think was a ball back in early 2000's that was very very good and underrated.

I was gifted a sleeve of Vice Tour in August and played that sleeve until I lost the last ball in October on a links course on a windy day.  I was using slightly used Pro V1's as water balls so as to not lose the Vice Tour🤣  Long and straight off the tee and enough spin around the greens that fit my game perfectly.

I also played the new TF Gamer.  Very nice ball.  For the money ($16.99/doz bulk - 5 doz min.) the Vice Tour is perfect.
