Thread title change: spider tour stroke left me completely...so I bought a blade. What I learned...

Spider plumber's neck appears headed to the bench for a bit. Bought it a little over a year ago and there were times I couldn't miss with it. About 2.5 months ago she started to leave me. Didn't think much of it but it's gotten into my head now and I've lost all confidence in it.

It got so bad today that I put a bid on a dale anser mid-round...

I can't find the stroke with it. I'm missing the hole by 2 inches from 6 feet. My confidence is just shot. Hit 14 greens today and shot 76...three 3putts.

Gonna give a blade a go. Spider isn't going anywhere, but maybe looking at something else for a bit will rekindle what me and spider had.

I feel like dustin johnson...just 50 yards shorter...

i got a L neck Spider last October and games until a couple of weeks ago. The spider was easy to line up but for what ever reason I could not put a good roll on it. The Spider went into my 10 year olds bag and I got a Timeless brand carbon dalehead which feels great. If the the Timeless doesn’t get out of line I might look at upgrading to a DH89. If it dose get out of line, I know where to find the Spider

Lol, I know. But the spider started to falter well before the pin in stuff started. I'm watching the head during the backswing and looking early in the forward swing. Just a complete mental case with the putter rt now.

My spider won't stay out of the bag too long. I've gotten to where I take the putter away outside the line. I tend to pull a blade inside so my thought is to use the blade to get the strike right and then let the spider back in.

Unless the anser gets the job done. Figure I just need to look down at something different for a bit.

Same here! I have the Spider X slant neck...never really loved but it did feel stable. Last three rounds were god awful putting...so I pulled the trigger on a Odyssey SL Double Wide slant neck. Today it felt like coming home, maybe I’m not a big mallet guy ?‍♂️.

I bought an anser...vault 2.0, off the bay. Came in yesterday so I took it out and played with it. I played a Newport beach for years until about 2014 or 15. Putting that blade down certainly had me reminiscing.

That said, I didn't buy the blade to switch permanently. I bought it with the premise that I needed to look down at something else for a bit. Some interesting observations...

- in just an hour of practice putting with the anser, I can tell that I won't game it much, if at all. Start line consistency, path consistency, etc is just a bit less than with the spider. But that was to be expected.

- with the anser, I can really get a solid sense of the feel of a smooth transition. Poor transition is magnified in the anser. I really have to stay focused on the stability of my body, wrists, and staying down through the stroke with the anser. I venture a guess that because the spider is so forgiving that i got a bit sloppy with my posture, stroke, etc.

- aligning the anser is so easy. The spider has a long sight line. Looking down at the anser appears to have helped me better align the spider. I believe I got into being aligned too far right with the spider.

- putting with the blade helped me get back to just stroking the spider instead of putting it. Don't know why, but after an hour with the anser i.picked up the spider and she came back to life.

So, it looks.like I'll keep the blade and basically use it as a training aid.

I started putting a line around my ball with a marker and I am having better luck getting the ball roll end over end with my dale head than I am with the spider. The only real benefit I have found to the mallet is when my stroke gets completely out of whack.

I have tried the line on the ball a couple of times and it just doesn't work for me.

Agree that when the stroke is just a little off, the spider holes more putts. A lot of the reason it'll never leave the bag for too long...maybe not at all if the anser turns out to be a great aid to the spider.
