Best Players’ CB irons

Looking for a thin top line, minimal offset, soft feel/great feedback and maximum performance (lower launch, if that’s even possible) cavity back/semi cavity back iron.

Currently gaming a 20ish year old set of Taylormade 300 series and have become accustomed to the look and feel but believe there are performance gains to be had.

I'm gonna give the homer option and say the Ben Hogan PTx Pro. They are a very good looking players cavity with disproportionate forgiveness. There aren't as many shaft options, but they have the KBS Tour-V and Dynamic Gold series shafts. They won't break the bank either. I've just been blown away with their irons over the past 5 years from a performance standpoint, so I always try to bring them up when people are looking for players irons since that is more their target audience. They just launched their .eu site as well I believe.

Trying to improve on the TM 300's is going to be awfully hard. That's the top of the heap imo.

The TM 300s are a really great set. The only knock against them are that their grooves aren't 2010 compliant. Loft for loft, there won't be any performance difference compared with the current stuff out there.

To be clear, the picture showing the orange stripe denotes the 2017 version. The 2019 version has the white stripe.

This is like a thread every week on here and everyone has their favorites. If topline and offset are priorities, id suggest cobra king cb, titleist 620 cb, or titleist t100. All the others, mizuno mmc, or jpx 919, callaways, and srixons will have more offset and thicker toplines.

2010 TM Burner TP (Japan). Softest cast club of all time. Virtually no offset and very shallow cavity

Look at Bridgestone J15 CB’s. Been gaming them for 3 years and they are the best players forged CB’s I’ve played.

Playing the tour b x-cb. A bit of offset in the longer irons. And a touch strong. Would loose some offset setting them to standard lofts.

I play the J40 DPCs for a similar reason that you are probably recommending the J15's. The DPC is a crazy combination of thin topline and low offset with surprisingly high forgiveness, low and rearward CG, and incredible soft forged feel. Its basically a super slim player's CB but with the CG and forgiveness of a much more game improvement level club.

I've been golfing seriously for the past 30 years. I have always played a mid cap cavity back. Plenty of great irons sets have been in my bag in the past. In January I got my current set. That set has easily surpassed all the others in performance. The feel, workability, and look at address is marvelous. I highly recommend the

Taylor Made M5 irons.

They are amazing.

I played with TM300's for several years, replaced them when I got fitted by a former Fuji tour rep and replaced them with a set of KZG Forged Evolution's. Passed them on to my son in law when the shaft got to stiff for me and went to Bridgestone J40 and now J15. If you can find a good used set you should be happy.

Hard to believe no one has mentioned the Mizuno MP-62 or 64 or 60 or many other wonderful CBs. MP-62's are my favorite!

Been playing Titleist CB’s, Have had a bit of everything in the bag (TM MC, PXG GEN1, Mizzy is always nice), but Titleist gets the job done for me with minimal change each cycle they release a new iron.

I play these and really like them. I would like to change shafts as I feel they spin a bit too much. Maybe I just need a different ball.

Player CBs very in forgiveness and playability. If forgiveness is primary, stay away from certain clubs like Titleist 620CBs or older versions like my 716CBs maybe even 718CBs which are a touch easier to play. Club-head specs and overall design make a difference.

But my backup set is still my TM 300s with Nippon shafts (Lehman grind).

My other sets are Srixon 785s and Wilson FG Tour V6 raw. All 3 of my sets are great player's cavity back. I'd put the Wilsons up against anything out there right now. I just chimed in with the MMCs because they're my flavor of the moment, lol.
