Charlotte Area Clubs/Courses?

Hey Everybody!

Been on WRX for a long time but never posted. Recently changed jobs and moved from Florida to Charlotte and am looking for advice on clubs to look at joining and best public courses.

Im 31 and not in a position to be looking at clubs with huge initiations like quail, mp, Carmel or CCC but would like to find somewhere with a younger active membership.

as far as public courses go, what places tend to stay in the best shape?

I currently live in Uptown.

also being new to the area, always looking for new people to get out and tee it up with.

The Sifford course right outside of Uptown is a small 9 Hole, but well maintained. They have the best public practice facility.

For the prices, you can't beat Harry Jones off Tyvola. If you're looking to play more than 8ish rounds in a year, look into Ratcliffe Golf's Golf Perks membership. $$ off rounds and rewards (food, rangeballs, etc.)

Go check out Pine Island. Best group of young guys in town outside of Carolina GC. CGC has a waiting list, however, so that one would take more time. Also much more expensive than Pine Island.

Are you a member at Pine Island? Do you know about the pricing structure at CGC?

Do they have a young executive type membership there?

Used to play out at Carolina but have since moved elsewhere in Charlotte. Yes, they do have a young exec type of membership. Been a while since I have seen the details, however. You'll still need to know a few folks out there to apply.

Thanks for the insight, much appreciated. I have found a few groups and tried to connect with some members at cgc through LinkedIn. Will definitely be emailing some membership directors at some of the other clubs as well as things start reopening here.

Check out Gaston CC. If you are uptown you can get a non-resident membership. Fantastic track, right at 30 minutes from uptown. If you have any issues getting on let me know.

Thanks for the input on Gaston. Seen a few pics of the course and it looks like it’s in great shape. Will have to put it on the list to check out, esp if there’s a non resident deal

Belmont resident here, and I’ve been looking around myself.. Moved from WNC and i can’t get over how crowded public courses are in the greater Charlotte area. I’ve got Cramer Mtn right up the road but Gaston CC is not much of a further drive. Anybody have any idea how comparable the fees are between the two places?

It's been a few years since i've seen the numbers but Gaston was lower than many private and from what i've heard a pretty nice track.

Not sure about fees but just email them. I prefer Gaston between those two. Really fun course and nice facilities. I’d consider pine island too from Belmont. The CMC course is just too tight for me.

I also live in Belmont and have been a member at Pine Island, Cramer, and am now at Gaston.  PM me and I can give you all of the details.  Also, happy to host at Gaston.
