Wow....instructor drama! Chuck Quinton at it again....

You don't have to do anything to have copyright. The law gives you copyright to texts you've written, videos you've made or whatever. Your kids have copyright to he drawing they bring home from school too.

 

The ideas behind e.g. a swing philosophy are not copyright protected, though.

Damn I didn't know we had one of the world's leading experts on the golf swing and the pioneer of golf fitness right here in St. Louis.  I don't think I've ever seen her name listed as someone to get a lesson from in the last 13 years I've been playing. 

 

I do remember wondering long ago how Chuck Quinton's stuff looked exactly like Hardy's and him not getting in trouble for it.  Then he switched to this RST swing.  He really did pioneer the online subscription golf business though.  What seemed cheap and gimmicky back then is something that a lot of big name instructors do.  I bet they rake in a lot of cash too.

Amazing story - I have been a Rotary Swing member since July 2020 ( and was unaware of this issue ) - after failing at Tatatha's lessons to have them stick.  I had watched a few 'teaser' video's prior to that - and some were eye opening --like swinging the club with one hand.  Finally I took the plunge when they offered a low price per/month - I guess since I has hanging around and not making a commitment ??

 

Another key point is I have never had any instructor point me to books like Chuck did for 'The Talent Code' ( 2 second summary --it take thousands of repeats to learn anything ).  That by it self is a major eye opener to how much work one needs to change and improve ... I would recommend you get it from your library and give it a read ( I got on Audible ).
 

A third point for Rotary Swing --is the video lessons - and his insistence on mirrors or video when you swing.   At my home course there is none of that ... His comment that 'feel its not real' is so true ( once I overcame my fear of video taping and then having to buy tripods etc ... :-).   Since then I have found some great video delay apps on the iPhone that I can set at 5 seconds and see my swing afterwards ... Seeing yourself is painful and an eye opener.

 

Be interesting to see how this all plays out ...

It looks like Quinton dropped the lawsuit after the judge ruled that Quinton 'obfuscated' the origin of the Rotary Swing Tour teaching method.

Looks like he did something similar to Jim Hardy as well.

The unfortunate thing about all of this is that Quinton seems to be a very effective teacher, from what I've seen from videos of him working with student. And, Theitje has some very interesting ideas that I'm looking forward to experimenting with at the range. (I don't know anything about Kaplan.)
