Anyone Live in Balcones Village - Austin?

Wanted to check and see if anyone lives in out near Balcones, specifically on or near the country club. We are moving from out of state and are considering a house purchase in the neighborhood but would love to get some perspective from some locals. I drove dove a few weeks ago and looked at a house there and the neighborhood seems great. Didn't bother to check out the club, but did drive around and look at the course. Looks in good shape.

 

Mid 30s, married with kids. Any feedback about the area I'd appreciate!

Check out Twin Creeks in Cedar Park, TX. It is not far up the way from there and a great place. Wife and I were members for 2 years prior to moving to Ohio last year and loved it. We are in the same age demographic and fit in at this club. They had lots of events and the staff is great.

Thanks @JIG1411 for the quick response. We’ve looked there too. How were costs for twin creeks? Balcones is 260 a month, lower than we were expecting

I hear nothing but bad things about Balcones and good thing about Twin Creeks. Never been to Balcones to give a fist hand perspective though.

@RH1 I had the reciprocal membership which was a little more but could play river place and a few others. It was around $350 a month then. But it is worth going to tour and see where there rates are.

I recently left TC. At 38 your rates go way up. Since I live far away it wasn’t worth the price for me anymore, but I was a member for 5 years.

IMO the Jr membership with reciprocal is the best deal in town, especially now that TC is owned by Arcis.

However, over the last two years the membership has exploded. It was difficult to get tee times and most afternoon rounds were pushing 4.5-5hrs. That made leaving an easy decision.

the course is fantastic and generally kept in great shape. It is very difficult though, and i think anybody over a 15 hdcp is going to have a bad time. I think the difficulty of the course is probably the second contributor to the slow play after sheer volume of people.

it’s a superior course to balcones IMO, and it’s not close.

Just following up here, I think we're going to lean towards Balcones. The course is not nearly as nice but its in the neighborhood and my wife and kids can take the cart to the pool and tennis for social activities. Anyone here a member? We're a few weeks in and finally getting settled. COVID obviously has me not all that interested in venturing out, but membership dues are pretty cheap.

A good buddy of mine lives near Balcones, the course itself is a POS. However, its pretty cool little place for the beer, food, and pool.

how a lot of our neighbors have put it. They do some good social stuff, gives kids a place to play.. and frankly as long as the course isn't so busy its taking me 6 hours to get in a round I'm fine with it. For how cheap membership is it makes sense the course isn't great.

I live in great hills and everything said above is correct. Great hills gc is literally across the street and similar pricing although initiation is higher. Tc is my fav course in NW (great hills too) but it is really tough for higher handicaps. Balcones cc community is nice but course is meh. the schools are excellent in this area since they are rrisd.
