I wish the tour would have taken advantage of the new schedule by incorporating more courses like Seminole. All-time great courses that maybe don’t make the regular rotation because they lack capacity for big crowds or aren’t close to big urban areas. I get that logistically and financially this wouldn’t have made sense, but it would have been cool.

Glad they’re getting something, it’ll be interesting to see how it comes across on television because the very first time I played there I said, “this place sucks!” It’s not wall to wall green, the bunkers aren’t kept pristine or weed free (they’re technically native areas if I remember correctly) but the more I played it the more I realized how good a golf course it is. It’s can jarring aesthetically to look at but it’s challenging golf course.

just checked extended forecasts, rain next Sunday thru Wednesday so it might be greener than what I was used to seeing this time of year. Will be a good time though for sure!

also walker cup 2021 will be played here so good walkthrough for the boys at Seminole.

I'm much more excited about this than watching a washed Phil play against Tiger... and the thought of listening to Peyton and Brady doesn't draw me in

Nice as a filler but once the tour is back I'm not sure an event like this needed. Think the skins game in Japan, OK appetiser for the main event but the tournament was much better.

Yes to infinity. Would be great to basically revive the old Shell's Wonderful World of Golf and go to fun and different courses that are not tour stops. There are a lot of great courses in the US (and beyond) that fly way under the radar and go unappreciated (by the masses) because they aren't 8000 yard TPC tour stops. In match play you have so much more freedom with the courses.

I played a fair amount there, but not once in the last like 20 years or so. Having played it more recently, I'd be curious to hear your take about how the course holds up to the new equipment. I'm thinking of 15 in particular. Pretty sure I had an OG Great Big Bertha in the bag last time I played there, and 15 was still playing the way Ross intended. Might've been with a Tour Balata, could've been with a Professional--can't remember exactly, but was definitely pre-ProV. With the new equipment I'd think on 15 all of these guys can fly it over the split fairway and land it way out there where the fairway is super wide where the two halves join back together. They might even choose to hit 3 wood to keep it short of where it narrows down again--maybe 3 wood, 6 or 7 iron? That's a world different than how it played last time I was there. Great course, but also a great example of a course where there just isn't the real estate available to tack on 500+ yards.

I can't wait to see who is consistently the longest. And if Ricky can keep it close to them off the tee?

You’re right about the lack of real estate, but believe it or not they found close to 250 yards now it can play over 7000 but in regards to 15 in particular it’s been pushed straight back and it’s now right off the green from 14. Off the top of my head I don’t have the yardage (I just messaged a buddy that works there).

it’s still a challenge to me at least, I was a memberat Medalist and someone figured my handicap was +3.6 so I can play a little bit. The challenge with Seminole to me is it always changes direction, so it’s hard to get a good beat on the wind. The greens tend to be firm and you know the slopes and the speeds balls can look great in the air but end up in a bad spot. So you have to manage your golf ball and hit the shots precisely. I think they’ll get a good challenge from the course. It takes multiple rounds to get comfortable out there, I’m sure it ain’t the first time for any of these guys remember Mr. McIlroy is a member at Seminole (Gerry not Rory).

Rory and DJ, that would be an intimidating two some. What are they going to average 700 yard combined drives off each tee?

Thanks, appreciate the insight. Back in the day I remember it as tipping out around 6750-6800, somewhere in there. Interesting that they were able to bump it out another 250 or so. IIRC, 14 and 15 were both listed right around 500, and on 15 that was measured the long way around the dogleg. Straight away it couldn't have been more than 460 or 470-ish. You know, driver wedge for these guys today, lol. Back then--and this was several lifetimes ago--I was playing off +2.5 or so, so I was a decent stick, but Seminole always struck me as a very tricky course. You're dead right about how it lays out. Took me forever to figure out that no two holes run in the same direction. That's the genius of the layout. Even if the wind never changes it feels like it's always blowing from a different direction. And of course great green complexes too. Just a great track. I'm excited to see it on TV.

Speaking of TV, Seminole, and McIlroys, what they need to do during this coronavirus shutdown is televise Rory and Gerry playing a casual round there. Rope in some other local pro and his dad too--a $5 Nassau would do just fine. Now that would be entertaining. Especially if it's one of those days when Rory is feeling it. I'd love to see him play that course when he's in 62-at-Quail-Hollow mode.

Just an aside to the last part, with that rematch of Phil and Tiger I texted my buddy they’re coming to play with y’all since you’re closed. Seminoles been closed since early March. It would be perfect...no ones been there for at least a month (if not no one very minimal staff) so you can control the environment.
