Spotted! Fake Scotty Cameron T22

Scotty Cameron Teryllium T22 Newport 2 35" Limited Edition! NEW,IN PLASTIC,RARE! | eBayThought it was odd to be in this type of plastic. Looked off immediately in font so I looked closer and the font is slightly off (paint is botched on Teryllium too), the dots in the cavity are slightly bigger and most noticeably, the copper insert isn't as wide. The copper insert goes just past the weights in the real ones, this one was short of the weights.

Overall a pretty good clone so be careful and do your homework before buying one.

Unfortunately this has kept me away from scotty putters since I mainly buy used. I see too many threads asking to verify the authenticity of cameron putters here. This fake would fool me easily.

the plastic wrap is a guarantee that it’s fake. Scotty never wraps them in plastic, only plastic stickers on the bottom between the weights

Dang. Great catch. I'll admit that this might have slipped by me too. I always look at the Titleist script to ID fakes and the one on the neck seems OK.

Two bidders and up to $525, sad when you think about it. High bidder is a 1 feedback rookie. Somebody’s getting screwed. And in the end they may never know, until they show it off.

on a second note, what would you say if your golf buddy showed up bragging about what they got on eBay? Would you break their heart with the news that they wasted their money?

I would recommend anyone I play with get it checked out if I thought they got scammed on eBay. I’d point out why I thought it was fake and let them do their own legwork if they cared enough. There’s always the chance they could still file a paypal claim and get their money back. I’d help anyone if I thought they got scammed.

i once got paired up with a guy who was playing fake golf pride multi compound grips. i could tell just by looking at them, i didn't even need to feel them. wasn't sure if i should tell him he had fakes or not. on hole 7 he hits a bad tee shot and mentions to the group that his hands slipped and he needs to re-grip his clubs. that's when i just told him "hey i think your multi-compounds are knock-offs" he gave me the death stare and said " I know! no way in hell i'm spending $10 a grip" gave me the silent treatment the rest of the round and never said "good shot" or anything after that lol...thus why i've learned to just keep my mouth shut in situations like this

Guy probably paid $150ish for it on one of a few chinese sites, then flipped it for $715 on ebay.

I tagged it 3 times. Ebay is worthless on removing fakes. I imagine a lot more people will continue to get burned with either a counterfeit putter or a nightmare trying to get their money back.

I wouldn't be surprised if the scammers just start posting a generic picture up and say brand new, then ship the counterfeit version. At 300% returns and ebay not removing them, the opportunity is there for criminals.

Sometimes people trade for putters and get a fake and try to sell it unknowingly. This guy is straight up trying to scam people.

 

I'm really glad I sold mine. These fakes look very similar and will definitely make buyers skeptical about buying one once enough people get scammed. It'll be interesting in social media when people proudly post their latest scotty purchase only to be told they have a knockoff.
