Apple Watch App WITH Automatic Shot Tracking similar to Garmin Watch

Recommended Posts

HI Guys,

I have been looking for an app that will do automatic shot tracking like the Garmin watch for use with my Apple Watch. I am pretty surprised that I haven't found an app that will do it. Is it true nothing like that is out there? Paid is fine, I just can't find it. I was a longtime used of GolfShot and have just switched over to TheGrint and have been impressed, but would love to use an app that at the end of my round I can see my tracked shots. Anyone have info to help would be appreciated!

I’ve not used it, but a little research on google saw Hole19 is one.

Arccos is not just an app, you have to have the club sensors. To go with the app, I believe the OP is looking for a stand-alone app. But you illustrate the problem I would have with a stand-alone app, and that is manual club selection for each shot. That would last 2 hole with me. I use Arccos with an Apple Watch and its still not perfect.

Thanks guys. Ya a few buddies have the Garmin and love the post round automatic club tracker, after 5 rounds it pretty much knows the club selections. I will look into Hole19 but I think it is the same as GolfShot and requires the golfer to select the club, start and stop the yardage for every shot. Accros is an option, but again, if the watch has the tech, why pay for more tech if you can help it. I appreciate the insight though.

Beacause Arccos knows the exact club in your hands, anything else is either guessing or requires manual selecting. How does the garment watch know the club?

You can download the Fore app and that via Apple Watch can do automatic shot tracking. You will have to do some round editing later as it “predicts” the club you used  by the yardage.

I’ve tried the the Fore app and it does detect your full shots but not the chips or putts. You will need to edit your round quite a bit. The nice thing is that they show your walking trail on the map do it is easy to figure out where you had your shots. You just have to remember what clubs you’ve used.

It is still a lot of work though. But the main disadvantage of the app is that it kills your battery on the watch. They recommend you switch to Flight mode to save battery but that somehow defeats the object of having a phone. If I don’t switch it off my Apple Watch will die after about 15-16 holes leaving me without the GPS.

With respect to the Strokes Gained it reports I was surprised by my last round. I had a very bad putting and chipping day (and I mean bad - 10 putts on the first 3 holes alone and lots of rubbish chips) but the app told me I lost most strokes on my approach. I think this is down to it not really knowing the location of your putts  and it is very difficult to enter the location accurately (on the green your walking trail is all over the place).

Your stats will only be as good as the data you put in and your short game data will be off!

They should have a button on the watch to manually record a shot and the hole location.

I don’t like the battery drain but in regards to Airplane mode I usually switch it on and off right away on the phone - it puts the Watch into Airplane mode but the Phone is back to normal. I also think the battery drain is due the app using the Watch GPS, so I use the phone GPS ( I usually walk).

Agreed, I wish there was a feature where you can mark your position on the green via the watch and mark the hole position. I think that would clean up the short game portion. Also add shot types like pitch , sand and lob plus not just arbitrarily choose LW for every shot. I think when you choose anything else it screws up the strokes gained analysis.

but for me, I still like the app. Needs improvement but I like the direction.
