Gripmaster Grips: Calling all the Experts. Jumbuck vs KIDD vs ROO

Hi Guys,

I play the Gripmaster The ROO (Oversize) at the moment. They are tacky as hell and I swapped them 7 Times on some Irons Sets with Air. Still like new.

I ordered some KIDD and some JUMBUCK Grips in Midsize (which should be the same as the ROO in Oversize).

I played around with them a little and I noticed some things.

I hope someone can help me out about the specific questions.

 

I measured the Grips, because to me it feels like the ROO is smaller than the Jumbuck or the KIDD. Even if the measurements are nearly the same. With closed Eyes I could easily tell the ROO apart.Tackiness: I spoke to Ben from Gripmaster and he told me that all these 3 Grips should be nearly identical in tackiness. I found the ROO significantly tackier. Could it be that my ROO´s are tackier because they are older and wear in a lot. Should I give the Jumbuck and the KIDD more time to break in?Ben told me also that the Classic Wrap Grips are not good for players who's thump rubs a little on the Grip, because it causes the leather Lip to roll up. Did someone noticed that?I love the ROO, but I could easily live with a little less tackiness. But I want the Grips to be a little bit thicker than the ROO (I have 2 Tapes under them).

Before I order a whole new Set for my new Irons I just want to know what your experiences are, because I have to order them Overseas with Taxes and Shipping and Custom. So it would be an expensive experiment if it doesn't work out.

 

What are your thoughts if you tried some of the 3 Grips for a while?

Put GripMaster Master Swinger on my irons through Club Champion and so far absolutely hate them. Very very slippery.. Tacky with a glove on but almost impossible to swing without a glove (which I prefer)

I had a similar dilemma a couple weeks ago. I was between the Roos and best grips. I went with best grips just because they’re American made in Texas. I just got them installed this morning and gonna play this afternoon. I really wanted the tackiest grip I could get because I prefer not to wear a glove. Hope they are all I want them to be.

It may be possible some solvent got on the grip and soaked into the leather when they were installing. My GripMasters are about as tacky as they come

Slippery when new is sometimes normal.

clean them with water and rub them with a towel until the towel sticks on them. Then clean again and only rub them dry. You should feel that they get tackier immediately.

 

gripmaster grips have to wear in.

Have gamed GM Jumbuk and Kidds. Love the feel of both. Currently have kidd on all 6 sets of irons. Very tacky, maybe a little smooth and first but once worn in superb.

I think we talked in another thread about your situation. Did you clean the grips? Typically, soap is not recommended, but in your situation (possible solvent soaking by CC during install) I think a diluted Dawn solution might help. Just don't overdo it. Just a couple of drops in a quart of water and mix well. Spray or rub a light coating on the grip and massage in for about 20 seconds (slight lather). Rinse thoroughly with clean water while rubbing until there's no bubbles and towel dry. See if the tack comes back. Let us know how it goes.

oh yep, that was you!! ive been swinging the crap out of them off my mat and net in the yard this week. Im going to clean them today, give them all day tomorrow to dry, and play Saturday with them. Ill let ya know how it goes!!

 

Ive definitely noticed some grips are much worse than others. id say 2 of the 7 are usable without a glove

That HAS to be what it is. I've never had any GM grip that were slick. I once bought some seconds that were too tacky though. Put them on my MP69 and turned my glove black in one round. I could literally press them against the palm of my hand and they would stick there! Had to wrap the grips in newspaper and leave them for about a month to draw the tack out. That process was recommended by GM staff.

That was my experience with 2 different sets of Gripmaster Wraps that I had previously. Squeeze the grip, open hand and they stuck. Literally had to shake the club to drop it. Aside from the fact that I had to replace my glove every couple of rounds, I absolutely loved those grips. I had stupid high clubhead speed back then, and could swing the club with confidence with hardly any grip pressure. With my current grips (golf pride tour wrap 2g) and ANY synthetic material grip, I feel like I have to grip much tighter to keep the club in my hands, which significantly impacts my ability tl generate consistency. I'm sure it's mostly mental, but it's still real for me. I've thought about going back to leather, I just cant justify the cost being that I only play for leisure now, and no longer play competitive golf.

What is the difference in tackiness between KIDD, ROO and Jumbuck?

 

and is one of these softer Or thicker than the others?

Hello, my name is DeNinny and I'm a GripMasterholic.

I don't have experience with the Jumbuck, but I have played the classic wraps, the kidds, the roos, and the older original version of the signature swingers grip. The two best by far are the roos and the signature swingers. Put a gun to my head and make me decide, I will choose the roos. But both are the best grips I've ever tried. The roos are slightly more tacky and feel slightly less supple and more "dense" than the signatures. The kidds are nice too but not quite on the same level. They may be the softest and most supple of the lot. The problem I have with the classic wraps is that they are uneven feeling because of the wrapped design. And last on my list are the master swingers. They feel the harshest relatively speaking. Like there is more underlying plastic/rubber beneath the same leather or there is literally less leather there than all the others. I wasn't impressed at all with them but my expectations were set high with my first three choices. (But they are still better than rubber grips.)

Hey SvenS3. No I don't recall any subtle differences like that. All of them were standard size and felt as such. And only master swingers were the ones that felt like the thickness of the leather itself was thinner compared to the others. But still it was at the same standard diameter size. Just the leather thickness itself felt thin.
