Fall Sports Cancelled

Recommended Posts

Well that's California for one. They ae shutting down everything so not surprised. I think we will start to see play elsewhere. A big part of things opening up I believe is professional sports.

The bigger concern is golf tournaments for juniors are not really going anywhere. On a side note now that I am playing courses with the cup in and upside down i could see where it could lead to a issues over did the the ball hit the cup or not. It also seems to make putting way easier and lowers scores.

That is what I am worried about. Some tournaments are actually being played this way because well they have to have it because of state regulations. So basically until this rule is relaxed and we can putt to the hole in the ground we have sort of an issue. with being able to play real tournaments.

I know HJGT has been running tournaments but I haven't been to one yet but it was under my impression they playing with the upside down cup. Could be wrong but it appears that way from rules that were sent.

It sure does and even worse I could imagine the arguments that would happen if the tournament means anything.

almost all tournaments say leave the flagstick in right now. The bigger issue is no one is talking about local and club rules where the ball is not allowed to go in the hole. The rules are not only different state to state by county to county.

The more I think about the patchwork of regulations and the fact some states say you can’t travel from out of state without 14 days quarantine. I don’t see how we play any tournaments that actually matter for a while.

honestly local 1 day tournaments seem like the best deal to play.

It goes in the hole, it just doesn’t fall all the way down. That way it can be removed without touching the cup or stick. At the Maridoe charity tournament, Spieth flew the ball into the cup on a par 3, but it bounced out due to the foam spacer. They joked that it was a Covid hole in one. He was playing as a marker, so it didn’t matter. Of course, it’s not a hole in one, he had to play out the hole.

The USGA modified rules say if it hits the cup it counts as in. If the cup is even with the green and hits the lip, how do you know it is actually in? Our course modified the cup by putting PVC inside the hole that sticks up about 4 inches above. There is no arguing if it goes in or not.

My son attends one of the schools that has cancelled fall sports, I overheard his end of year wrap up call with his coach. The coach indicated that some of the coaches were trying to put together some tournaments for the kids to play in the fall, they would compete as individuals. I'm glad he'll be a senior and graduate next May, this whole thing is a mess. Of course there won't be any jobs out there for him but at least he will be done.

No argument here, as the business of football is power on top of power.

Not sure how much there is to this talk, but if the NFL can't play in LA for even a portion of the year it looks like Las Vegas wants to help.

Last time I will post on this as to not derail the thread even worse than I have.https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/05/10/could-las-vegas-host-both-l-a-teams/

You are correct, it is all online in the fall. It’s interesting Fresno State is all online as well but have not cancelled fall sports as far as I know. My son is still going to be up there for the semester, he’s not sure about program organized practices. I’m sure the team will get together and play on a regular bases.
